Chapter 9 - The Trial of Light

The Family Court hearing lasted less than thirty minutes.
When the state prosecutors and opposing lawyers saw Noelle Marchetti walk into the courtroom flanked by six top-tier defense attorneys, holding the official marriage certificate and verified DNA documentation signed by three independent laboratories, their case collapsed instantly.
The judge slammed her gavel down on the marble desk.
"In light of the overwhelming biological evidence and the legitimate marital status of the respondents," the judge declared, her voice echoing through the packed courtroom, "all petitions for state intervention are dismissed with prejudice. Full legal and physical custody of Leo, Mateo, and Clara Marchetti is granted jointly to Damian and Noelle Marchetti."
The room erupted into quiet murmurs.
Outside the courthouse, dozens of news cameras flashed as Damian and I walked down the stone steps together. For the first time in my life, I didn't hide my face. I held my head high, my arm woven securely through my husband's, smiling brightly as the world finally saw the truth.
