Chapter 10 - Rebirth and Legacy

Six Months Later.
The sun shone brightly over the private harbor of the Vance-Romano Logistics headquarters in Brooklyn. The newly merged conglomerate was now the largest, most powerful shipping and trade enterprise on the Eastern Seaboard, fully legal, incredibly profitable, and completely unstoppable.
I stood on the glass balcony of the top-floor executive suite, wearing a tailored white silk suit, looking out at the massive cargo ships bearing our new golden emblem entering the harbor.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind. Dante pulled me against his broad chest, resting his chin softly on my shoulder.
“You’re thinking again,” Dante whispered, his lips brushing against the sensitive skin of my neck, making me smile.
“I’m just calculating our Q3 projections,” I replied, leaning back into his embrace. “We’ve officially cleared ninety percent of the North River channels. My father’s old board members signed over their remaining shares this morning without a single objection.”
“Of course they did,” Dante chuckled smoothly. “They know who really runs this city.”
Victor Romano had retired into obscurity, his health failing, his company absorbed entirely into ours. Lucille and Raymond were currently serving twenty-year sentences in a federal penitentiary.
I was no longer the discarded daughter of a fading mafia patriarch. I was the architect of an empire.
Dante turned me around in his arms so I was facing him. He looked down at me with an warmth that still took my breath away every single day.
Slowly, Dante reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box. He didn't drop to one knee; he didn't need to. He held the box open between us. Inside sat a magnificent, flawless ten-carat emerald-cut diamond ring, glowing brilliantly in the sunlight.
“Six months ago, you walked into my car in the middle of a storm, thinking your life was over,” Dante said softly, his deep voice thick with emotion. “You showed me that power isn't just about force—it’s about heart, intellect, and unbreakable courage. You are my equal, Elena. My partner, my queen, and the love of my life.”
Dante took the ring out of the box and looked into my eyes.
“Marry me, Elena. Not for a contract. Not for river rights. But because you and I are going to build a legacy that nobody can ever take away from us.”
Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welled in my eyes—not liquid wasted, but joy overflowing.
“Yes,” I whispered, sliding my hand into his. “Yes, Dante. Absolutely yes.”
He slipped the ring onto my finger, then lifted me into his arms, kissing me with a deep, passionate warmth that sealed our promise under the clear blue sky.
Two months later, an independent specialist in London—far removed from the corruption of New York—gently held an ultrasound wand over my stomach inside a private clinic.
Dante sat beside my bed, holding my hand so tightly his knuckles were white, his eyes fixed nervously on the monitor.
The doctor smiled broadly, turning the screen toward us. A steady, rhythmic, beautiful sound filled the quiet room.
Thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump.
“A strong, healthy heartbeat,” the doctor announced softly. “Congratulations, Mrs. Vance. You are twelve weeks pregnant.”
Dante froze. He looked at the monitor, then slowly turned his head to look at me, his gray eyes shining with unshed tears of pure wonder. The feared crime boss of New York, the man who had faced down armies without flinching, was completely overwhelmed by the tiny sound echoing through the room.
He leaned down, pressing his forehead against mine, his tears falling softly onto my cheek as he kissed my lips, then moved down to press a soft, reverent kiss against my stomach.

“Our legacy,” Dante whispered against my skin.
I smiled, running my fingers through his dark hair, looking out the window at the bright horizon ahead. My family had declared me worthless because of a lie, but in the end, I had found my true strength, destroyed the monsters who tried to break me, and built a life of absolute freedom, immense power, and an everlasting love that would endure for generations to come.
