Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Sunday evening arrived. The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was bathed in golden light, crystal chandeliers, and the hushed whispers of New York’s elite underworld and corporate aristocracy.

The High Council Summit was in full swing. Victor Romano sat at the center table, looking frail, gaunt, and significantly aged. Beside him sat Lucille, dressed in an elegant navy velvet gown, looking cool and triumphant. Uncle Raymond stood nearby, sipping champagne with high-ranking port authorities.

Dr. Elliot Ferris was also in attendance, chatting nervously with board members near the stage.

The heavy mahogany doors of the ballroom swung open.

The room fell completely silent.

I walked into the ballroom wearing a floor-length, backless crimson silk gown that hugged every curve of my body. My hair was styled in sleek, dark waves, and diamonds glistened at my throat. I looked every bit the queen I was born to be.

Walking beside me, holding my hand with quiet, absolute dominance, was Dante Vance, dressed in a custom black tuxedo.

Gasps echoed through the room.

“Elena?” Victor gasped, clutching his cane as he half-rose from his chair, his eyes wide with shock.

Lucille’s champagne glass froze halfway to her lips. Raymond turned pale, his eyes darting frantically toward the security exits.

“What is the meaning of this?” Raymond demanded, trying to regain control as he stepped forward. “This is a closed summit for board leaders and syndicate heads! You signed away your rights, Elena! Security, escort them out!”

“Security won't be touching anyone tonight, Raymond,” Dante’s deep voice echoed across the quiet hall. Four of Dante’s armed tactical security guards stepped into the doorways, locking the exits.

I stepped forward into the center of the room, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.

“Dr. Ferris,” I called out smoothly, looking toward the trembling doctor in the corner. “Step forward, please.”

“I... I have nothing to say to you, Miss Romano!” Ferris stammered, backing away.

Marcus stepped up behind Ferris, placing a firm, heavy hand on his shoulder and guiding him forcibly to the front of the room.

“Two weeks ago,” I said, my voice projecting clearly to every CEO, mob boss, and politician in the room, “Dr. Ferris declared me permanently infertile in my family’s conference room.”

“It was a medical diagnosis!” Lucille snapped, stepping beside my father. “You are damaged, Elena! Accept it and stop making a scene!”

“Is that so, Mother?” I smiled coldly, pulling a remote control from my evening clutch and pressing a button.

The grand projection screens behind the main stage—usually reserved for market reports—instantly lit up.

Displayed on the screens were clear, high-resolution scans of my actual medical records, taken secretly at an independent university hospital two days ago by Dante’s top medical specialists.

Below the scans were the complete bank records detailing the $2.5 million bribe wired from Lucille and Raymond’s Swiss account to Dr. Ferris forty-eight hours before my diagnosis.

The ballroom erupted into violent murmurs and gasps.

“What... what is this?” Victor stammered, his eyes scanning the massive screens in horror. He turned slowly toward his wife, his face contorting in shock. “Lucille? What did you do?”

“It’s a fake!” Lucille shrieked, her composed facade completely crumbling. “She forged it! She’s working with Vance to destroy us!”

“I didn't forge the financial audit of Romano Continental either, Mother,” I said calmly, pressing the remote again.
