Chapter 9 - THE HEALING GARDEN

Six months later. Late Summer.

The gardens of the Montecito estate were in full, glorious bloom. White roses, lavender, and jasmine filled the air with a sweet, soothing fragrance.

A beautiful wooden gazebo had been built near the edge of the property, overlooking the rolling hills down to the Pacific Ocean. Inside the gazebo sat a stone memorial bench dedicated to Clara Bennett, surrounded by blooming white lilies.

Ethan and Sophie walked hand-in-hand down the stone pathway toward the memorial.

Sophie held a basket filled with fresh white rose petals. She walked up to the stone bench, taking handfuls of petals and gently scattering them across the top of the marble monument.

"Hi, Mommy," Sophie spoke sweetly, looking up at the clear blue sky. "Daddy and I are super happy today. I got an A in my reading class, and Daddy built me a big wooden swing on the oak tree!"

Ethan knelt beside his daughter, resting his hand gently on the warm stone.

"We miss you every day, Clara," Ethan whispered, his voice filled with peaceful love. "But your memory is finally safe. Nobody can ever distort the truth of who you were, or how much you loved us."

A soft breeze blew through the gazebo, rustling the rose petals, carrying a sense of deep, comforting warmth that surrounded both of them like a loving embrace.

Sarah walked down the stone path toward them, carrying a picnic basket filled with fresh fruit, sandwiches, and lemonade. She wore a simple summer sun dress, her dark hair tied back in a ribbon.

"Picnic is ready, team!" Sarah called out with a warm, cheerful smile.

"Yay! Lemonade!" Sophie cheered, running over to help Sarah set up the checkered blanket on the grass beneath the grand oak tree.

Ethan stood up, watching them. He looked at Sarah laughing with Sophie, watching the way Sarah gently adjusted Sophie’s sunhat, watching the effortless, beautiful harmony that had naturally formed between them over the past year.

There was no force, no manipulation, no artificial perfection. Just pure, organic, honest love.

Ethan walked over, sitting down on the blanket beside Sarah. He reached out, his big hand gently sliding over Sarah’s warm fingers.

Sarah looked up, her eyes bright and tender. She didn't pull her hand away. She squeezed Ethan’s fingers tightly, resting her head softly against his shoulder.

"Thank you for bringing light back into this house, Sarah," Ethan murmured gently.

"You brought the light back yourselves, Ethan," Sarah whispered, looking over at Sophie, who was happily chasing a yellow butterfly across the green grass. "You just needed a safe place to let it shine."
