Chapter 8 - The Architecture of Tomorrow

Six months later.
The top floor of Miller Meridian Tower looked entirely different.
The cold, sterile glass and steel aesthetic had been completely overhauled. Warm hardwood floors replaced the dark gray carpets. Potted fiddle-leaf figs and vibrant green plants lined the glass walls.
And in the center of my executive suite, replacing the lonely black leather chair, was a grand wooden desk designed personally by Emma—complete with a built-in miniature play area in the corner, filled with wooden blocks, drawing pads, and dinosaur toys.
Liam and Lucas were sitting on the plush rug, busily constructing a massive wooden bridge connecting two toy skyscrapers.
"Daddy, look!" Lucas yelled proudly, running over to tug on my sleeve. "I made the bridge strong like Mommy's drawing!"
I set down my tablet, crouching down to inspect the structure with serious concentration. "That is an engineering marvel, Lucas. I think we need to hire you for our new Hudson Yards project."
Lucas giggled, hugging my leg before running back to join his brother.
Emma walked into the office carrying a roll of architectural blueprints. She looked radiant, her cheeks flushed with life, wearing an artist's smock over her jeans. She had officially rejoined the firm as the Chief Architectural Officer, heading our new sustainable urban housing initiative.
"The board approved the playground designs for the Brooklyn community center," Emma said, leaning over my desk and kissing my cheek softly. "We start construction next month."
"I never had any doubt," I smiled, reaching up to wrap my hand around hers. "How does it feel to be the most powerful person in this building?"
"Exhausting," she teased, looking over at the boys, who were currently attempting to stack a third layer of blocks onto their bridge. "Especially when I have to manage three Miller men at the same time."
My assistant, Claire, walked in, holding a tray with four hot chocolates—two with extra marshmallows for the boys.

"Mr. Miller," Claire smiled warmheartedly. "The quarterly earnings report is ready for your sign-off. And... your 2:00 PM appointment is here."
I stood up, smoothing my shirt. "Send them in."
