Chapter 3 - The Queen's Throne

Evelyn walked into the foyer, her expensive leather boots clicking rhythmically against the marble floor—the very marble floor she had walked across six hours ago while holding her shivering newborns.
She didn't look like a "cheap seamstress." She didn't look like a "charity case." She looked like a monarch stepping into a conquered territory.
"Evelyn...?" Graham whispered, his voice trembling violently. "What... what are you wearing? What is this joke?"
Evelyn stopped three feet from him. She adjusted her gloves smoothly, her gaze drifting over his velvet robe, his disheveled hair, and his pale, terrified face.
"It's no joke, Graham," Evelyn said, her voice smooth, low, and laced with absolute authority. "You told me last night that I was a cheap little designer trapping you with babies. You told me I should be grateful you let me stay in your house."
She looked up at the crystal chandelier, then back at Vivian, who was trembling behind her son.
"I didn't stay in your house, Graham," Evelyn continued. "You slept in mine."
"You're crazy!" Vivian shrieked, pointing a shaking, diamond-encrusted finger at Evelyn. "You're a nobody! You worked out of a basement studio downtown!"
Marcus Vance stepped forward, opening a leather dossier. "Evelyn Vale is the founder, majority shareholder, and CEO of Vale International Holdings. Net worth: eight point two billion dollars. She owns thirty-four luxury retail brands, including Harrington Luxe, three shipping conglomerates, and the real estate firm that owns this entire gated community."
Graham felt the air leave his lungs. His vision blurred around the edges. Eight billion dollars. The small, quiet woman he had belittled, the woman whose clothes he had insulted, the woman he had pushed into the snow... was the ultimate boss of his entire life.
"No..." Graham stammered, dropping to his knees on the cold floor. "No, no, no... Evelyn, baby, listen to me! It was a misunderstanding! My mother—she was confused! I was drunk last night!"
Vivian looked at her son in utter shock. "Graham! What are you saying?!"
"Shut up, Mother!" Graham roared, turning on Vivian with desperate rage. "You filled my head with lies! You told me she was using me!"
He crawled forward on his hands and knees, reaching out toward Evelyn’s boots. "Evelyn, please! I love you! I love our boys! Where are Leo and Oliver?! Let me see my sons!"
Evelyn took a deliberate step back, avoiding his touch as if he were covered in filth.
"You called them bastards six hours ago, Graham," Evelyn said, her eyes burning with icy disdain. "You told me you would say I abandoned them if I fought your divorce."
She pulled a thick blue folder from Marcus’s hands and tossed it onto the floor in front of Graham. It landed with a loud, final thud.
"Those are the emergency sole custody orders granted by the High Probate Court at 4:00 AM," Evelyn said. "You have been stripped of all parental rights pending criminal investigation for child endangerment and domestic assault."

"Evelyn, please!" Graham sobbed, pressing his forehead against the marble. "Don't do this to me! I have nothing without my job! I have debts!"
"I know," Evelyn smiled coldly. "I bought your personal debts three hours ago, Graham. You owe Vale Holdings four point five million dollars in defaulted personal loans and unauthorized corporate card charges. And I am demanding immediate repayment in full."
