Chapter 9 - The New Horizon

One year later.

The sun shone brightly over the grand lawn of the Vale estate, where over two hundred guests gathered for the annual Vale Foundation Charity Gala for Single Mothers and Children in Need.

The estate grounds were filled with music, laughter, children playing, and elite donors from across the world.

Evelyn stood on the terrace, wearing a stunning emerald-green gown designed by her own high-fashion line. She held a glass of sparkling water, watching her sixteen-month-old twin boys playing in the soft grass under the watchful eye of Clara and their security team.

Beside her walked Dr. Julian Thorne—a brilliant, warm-hearted pediatric surgeon who served as the head of the medical board for Evelyn’s children's hospital foundation. Julian was tall, kind, with intelligent brown eyes and a smile that radiated warmth. Over the past year, he had become a close friend, a trusted mentor to the boys, and a man who saw Evelyn not as an eight-billion-dollar CEO, but as a devoted, extraordinary mother.

"You look breathtaking tonight, Evelyn," Julian said softly, handing her a fresh napkin.

Evelyn smiled, a soft blush touching her cheeks. "Thank you, Julian. And thank you for coming today. The foundation raised over twelve million dollars for the new maternal care wing."

"I would go anywhere for you and the boys, Evelyn," Julian said, his voice dropping into a sincere, tender tone. He looked out at Leo and Oliver, who were chasing a golden retriever puppy across the grass. "They are incredible boys. You’ve given them a beautiful life."

Evelyn looked at Julian, feeling a gentle flutter in her chest—a feeling she hadn't allowed herself to experience in a very long time. For years, she had built walls of steel around her heart to protect herself from betrayal. But standing beside Julian, she felt safe.

"It took a lot of pain to get here, Julian," Evelyn admitted softly. "There was a time when I thought love was just a trap people used to take advantage of you."

Julian turned to face her, stepping closer, his eyes filled with deep, unshakeable respect.

"Real love doesn't take, Evelyn," Julian said gently, taking her gloved hand in his. "Real love protects. Real love lifts you up when you're down, and stands beside you when you're strong. You never have to hide who you are with me."

Evelyn looked into his eyes, seeing no greed, no ambition, and no deception—only pure, genuine devotion.

"I know," Evelyn whispered, smiling from the bottom of her heart. "I know."
