Chapter 10 - Sunshine After the Storm

One year later.
Claire was promoted to Chief Legal Strategist at the County Judicial Department, recognized far and wide not only for her brilliant mind, but for her unwavering courage and integrity.
Lily, now twelve years old, had become a thriving young artist. Her painting—a vibrant canvas depicting a bright sunflower breaking through gray rain clouds into golden sunlight—won first place in the Oregon Statewide Youth Art Competition.
On the day of the art gallery exhibition, Claire and Lily walked together down the grand gallery hallway.
The local newspaper had published a feature article on Lily’s artwork, titled: From the Storm into the Light.
As they stood in front of the winning painting, Lily took Claire's hand.
"Mom," Lily asked softly, looking up at her mother. "Do you ever think about them?"
Claire looked at the painting, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace in her chest. The pain of the past was no longer an open wound; it was merely a scar that proved how strong they had been.
"I think about how far we’ve come, sweetie," Claire replied softly. "I think about how love isn't about blood or big houses. Love is about who stands by you when the storm comes."
"And who keeps the door wide open for you," Lily added with a sweet, radiant smile.

"Always," Claire kissed her head. "Always wide open."
They walked out of the gallery hand in hand into the warm, golden afternoon, stepping forward together into a future built on love, security, and unbreakable light.
