Chapter 3 - The Gathering of Shadows

The morning sun filtered through the white door with golden moldings, but the warmth did not reach the master bedroom. Alejandro stood up slowly, his movements deliberate, his face transforming into a mask of pure, unadulterated steel. The tech mogul, the brilliant real estate developer who had conquered the cutthroat business world of Mexico City, had returned—but this time, his target was his own bloodline.

"Thomas," Alejandro said into his phone, his voice flat and deadly calm.

On the other end, his chief of personal security, a former federal operative who answered only to Alejandro, responded instantly. "Yes, Mr. Aranda."

"Bring a medical team to the penthouse immediately. Private. Not connected to the Aranda family foundation. I need my wife evaluated, her injuries documented, and a full prenatal scan completed in the next hour. If anyone—including my mother or sister—attempts to enter this wing, terminate their access permanently."

"Understood, sir. We are moving now."

Alejandro hung up and turned back to Valeria. He walked over to the side of the bed, gently sat down, and took her trembling hands in his. For the past two years, he had been blind. He had believed his family's subtle barbs were just growing pains, a wealthy dynasty adjusting to an outsider. He had been so consumed by his multi-million-dollar contracts that he had left his most precious treasure unprotected in a house of wolves.

"I am sorry, Valeria," Alejandro said, his voice thick with emotion as he kissed her knuckles. "I let them do this to you. I believed their poison, even for a second. But I swear to you, by the child you are carrying, they will pay for every single mark on your body."

"Alejandro, you don't understand how deep this goes," Valeria pleaded, her voice tight with panic. "Ricardo isn't working alone. The ledgers... they show signatures from the regulatory ministers. They are setting you up as the fall man for a massive money-laundering scheme. If the authorities audit Aranda Holdings, you are the one who will go to federal prison. They designed it that way."

Before Alejandro could respond, the bedroom door clicked open.

Marcela Aranda stood in the doorway, dressed in a flawless designer tweed suit, a diamond tennis bracelet glittering on her wrist. She held a porcelain cup of tea, a sweet, condescending smile plastered across her face.

"Alejandro, darling," Marcela purred, stepping into the room without permission. "Mother and I were getting worried. We heard shouting. Did you finally confront the poor girl? We really think it’s best if we quietly pack her things and send her back to Coyoacán before the press gets wind of this little scandal—"

Marcela froze. Her gaze traveled from Alejandro's lethal expression down to the floor, where the blanket lay discarded, exposing Valeria's heavily bruised legs and bound ankle.

The porcelain teacup slipped from Marcela’s fingers, shattering against the hardwood floor. The hot liquid splattered across her expensive shoes, but she didn't even notice. The smug, victorious look on her face disintegrated into pure panic.

"Alejandro..." Marcela stammered, taking a step backward. "I... I can explain that. Valeria is clumsy... she had a fall... we tried to help her—"

"Get out," Alejandro said. He didn't scream. The quietness of his voice was infinitely more terrifying than a roar.

"Brother, please, you're listening to a woman who is trying to destroy our family!" Marcela shrieked, her voice turning shrill as she backed toward the hallway. "She’s a gold digger! She’s trying to manipulate you!"

Alejandro stood up, his towering frame casting a long shadow over his sister. "Thomas!" he called out.

Instantly, two massive security guards appeared in the hallway, blocking Marcela's retreat.

"Take my sister to the main drawing room downstairs," Alejandro ordered, his eyes locked on Marcela’s pale face. "Assemble my mother and Ricardo. Tell them we are having a family meeting. And if any of them tries to leave the estate... treat them as trespassers."
