Chapter 6 - A Sanctuary Refined

Two weeks passed. The Aranda mansion, once a symbol of cold, oppressive old-money status, was stripped of its toxic history. Alejandro had ordered a complete remodeling of the estate. The dark, heavy mahogany furniture was replaced with bright, contemporary designs, and the basement vault where Valeria had been attacked was permanently sealed with concrete.

Valeria sat in the new, sun-drenched conservatory, her sprained ankle resting on a comfortable ottoman. Her skin was healing, the dark bruises fading into faint yellow marks. Beside her sat Leo, a brilliant young legal assistant Marcus Vance had assigned to lead Valeria’s personal protection details.

"The medical reports have been securely filed with the court, Mrs. Aranda," Leo said, sliding a tablet over to her. "The assault charges against Ricardo have been upgraded to include corporate espionage and attempted termination of a pregnancy due to the severity of the stairs incident. The judge has denied bail for both him and Doña Esther."

Valeria looked out at the flawless lawn, where the sprinklers were sweeping across the grass just as they had two weeks ago. "And Marcela?"

"She’s currently under house arrest at her penthouse in Polanco," Leo explained. "Her assets have been frozen pending the completion of the forensic audit. She’s completely cut off from the family wealth."

Alejandro walked into the conservatory, carrying a tray with fresh fruit and herbal tea. He looked lighter, the heavy burden of uncertainty completely gone from his shoulders. He set the tray down and kneeled beside Valeria, placing a gentle hand on her pregnant belly. The baby kicked, right against his palm.

Alejandro’s eyes lit up with a profound, emotional warmth. "He’s strong, Valeria. Just like his mother."

"We need to leave this place, Alejandro," Valeria said softly, lacing her fingers through his. "Even with the new furniture, I can still hear Doña Esther's voice in the hallways. I can still feel Ricardo's hands on my legs. Our child shouldn't take his first breaths in a house that was built on theft and cruelty."

Alejandro didn't hesitate for a single second. "I’ve already bought a new property, Valeria. A beautiful, private villa in Coyoacán, right down the street from the art gallery where we first met. It has a massive garden, old trees, and no vaults. We move next week."

Valeria felt a deep, soothing relief spread through her chest. The billionaire who had once lived for the corporate skies was finally grounding himself in the only soil that mattered—the soil of their new, independent family.
