Chapter 6 - The Courtroom of the Damned

The ballroom exploded into absolute chaos. Journalists surged forward, their flashes blinding as they captured the historic confrontation. Nathaniel’s security team tried to step forward, but with a single, lazy wave of Dante’s hand, twelve Salvatici enforcers drew their weapons, their laser sights painting the guards' chests with deadly red dots.
“Don't even think about it,” Dante whispered, his voice carrying an authority that paralyzed the entire room.
Two days later, the state supreme courtroom was sealed under absolute federal lockdown. The media had turned the "Harrington Phantom Case" into the trial of the century. Nathaniel and Victoria sat at the defense table, surrounded by a dozen of the most expensive corporate defense attorneys in the country, led by a ruthless lawyer named Richard Vance.
I sat at the plaintiff’s table, perfectly calm, flanked by Dante and my legal team. Aria sat quietly in the front row of the gallery, protected by Marcus Vance and four undercover marshals.
“Your Honor!” Richard Vance shouted, slamming his hands onto the podium. “This entire proceeding is a farce! This woman is an impostor who has allied herself with a known criminal syndicate to extort my client's multi-billion dollar corporation! Clara Harrington disappeared nine years ago after embezzling funds from her own family trust!”
Judge Martha Higgins, a legendary jurist known for her unyielding integrity, looked over her glasses at me. “Ms. Harrington... or should I say, Clara. The defense claims you have no legal standing and no physical evidence to support your claims of marital fraud and attempted murder.”
I stood up slowly, smoothing the front of my black blazer. I walked to the center of the courtroom, carrying a single, sealed silver drive.
“Your Honor,” I said, my voice echoing clearly through the microphone. “For the last nine years, my ex-husband has operated under the assumption that the security cameras in his penthouse study were completely wiped on the night of December 14, 2027.”
Nathaniel flinched, his fingers gripping the edge of the table so hard his knuckles turned white.
“What he didn't know,” I continued, a cold, victorious smile spreading across my lips, “is that the security firm he hired was owned by a subsidiary of Salvatici Shipping. The raw, unedited footage of that night was backed up onto a secure cloud server. I would like to play the recording for the court.”
Richard Vance jumped up. “Objection! Electronic evidence from a biased source!”
“Overruled,” Judge Higgins barked. “Play the video.”
The massive projection screens of the courtroom flickered to life. The entire room fell into a deathly silence as the crystal-clear video displayed the events of nine years ago. The court watched in horror as a heavily pregnant Clara begged for help, while Nathaniel gripped her chin, mocked her, and ordered his guards to throw her out into a sub-zero blizzard to protect a corporate merger.

The audio captured his exact words: “Take her out... Use the service elevator. Throw her out the back alley... I’m not letting a hysterical, bleeding woman ruin the biggest night of my life.”
Gasps erupted from the gallery. Two of Nathaniel’s primary investors stood up immediately and walked out of the courtroom. Victoria collapsed into her chair, covering her face as she realized their carefully constructed empire had just encountered its executioner.
