Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Love

Six months passed, and the final remnants of the storm had completely cleared.
Nathaniel Harrington and Victoria Kensington were formally sentenced to twenty-five years in a maximum-security federal penitentiary, their appeals denied, their names permanently erased from the social registries of New York. The penthouse where I had been thrown out was seized and sold, the proceeds completely donated to local women’s shelters and emergency maternity clinics across the state.
It was a beautiful, warm evening in October. The grounds of the Salvatici estate in upstate New York were draped in white roses, fairy lights, and classical music that drifted softly through the pine trees.
A small, private gathering of our closest friends, family, and trusted allies sat in the garden, their faces illuminated by the warm glow of the lanterns.
I stood in front of a mirror in the master bridal suite, wearing a breathtaking, simple white silk gown that flowed around me like water. Around my neck was no longer the red diamond of vengeance, but a delicate, silver chain holding a small locket with a picture of my father and Aria.
The door clicked open, and Aria ran into the room. At nine years old, she looked absolutely stunning in her white flower-girl dress, her hazel eyes dancing with excitement.
“Mom! Everyone is waiting!” she cried, wrapping her little arms around my waist. “Dante looks so handsome in his suit, but he keeps checking his watch because he’s nervous!”
I laughed, kneeling down to look at my beautiful daughter. “Is he really nervous, sweetie?”
“Yes!” Aria giggled. “He accidentally dropped the ring twice. Marcus had to find it in the grass.”
I smiled, pulling her close, a deep, overwhelming sense of gratitude washing over my heart. “Aria, remember nine years ago when I told you that a prince saved us in a storm?”
May you like
“He’s not a prince, Mom,” Aria said proudly, looking at me with absolute serious sweetness. “He’s our Don. He’s my dad.”
Tears of pure joy welled in my eyes. I wiped them away quickly, kissing her forehead. “Yes, he is, my love. Let’s go make it official.”
