Chapter 17 - The Summer Gala

Two weeks later, the Ava DeLuca Foundation hosted its annual summer charity gala along the Chicago Riverfront.
The seventy-million-dollar research and sensory integration facility looked breathtaking under strings of warm fairy lights. Hundreds of guests—philanthropists, doctors, community leaders, and grateful families—gathered on the sprawling lawns to celebrate three years of miraculous progress and healing.
On the main outdoor stage, ten-year-old Ava stood proudly beside a large easel, unveiling her newest collaborative painting: a vibrant, textured mural titled The River of Hope, created alongside several children from the sensory integration program.
In the front row, Grace sat beaming with pride, holding her master's degree diploma in child psychology that she had officially received earlier that week. Uncle Mario and Leo were managing the outdoor catering stations, laughing and sharing drinks with longtime friends and supporters of the estate.
I stood near the edge of the terrace wearing a flowing midnight-blue silk gown, the cool summer breeze lifting my hair as I watched our children thrive in the light of day.
Damian walked up behind me, sliding his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder, just as he had done three years ago, and a thousand times since.
"Everything is perfect, my queen," Damian murmured, kissing my cheek. "The foundation audit is clear, the expansion into the Wisconsin district has been approved, and our children are safe."
I turned in his embrace, wrapping my arms around his neck, looking deep into the dark, devoted eyes of the man who had pulled me from the edge of despair and given me an entire universe.
"It's more than perfect, Damian," I whispered, smiling as little Leo toddled over toward us holding a small paintbrush like a wand. "It's real."

Damian smiled, leaning down to lift our youngest son into his arms, while pulling me gently against his side as Ava ran over to show us her completed painting.
Surrounded by family, love, and an unbreakable legacy of hope, the shadows of the past finally dissolved completely into the golden, eternal light of our future.
