Chapter 2 - The Return of the Patriarch

Within an hour, Samuel had completely locked down the VIP wing of Mercy Crown Hospital. Private security guards stood outside my door, and a specialized team of doctors was assigned to my recovery. For the first time in two months, I wasn't afraid. I held my son, whom I named Leo, against my chest, watching him sleep.
Samuel walked into the room, holding two cups of broth and a secure satellite laptop. "They didn't just target you to replace you with Lila, Nora. I've been running an independent audit on Vale Development from Europe. Carter’s airport contract... it was granted based on structural designs that only one person in this city could create. You."
"I have the flash drive, Samuel," I said, leaning back against the pillows. "I kept the original CAD files for the earthquake-resistant framework. Carter stole my patented system, forged my signature on the transfer deeds, and then used the fake paternity test to destroy my credibility so no court would believe my intellectual property claims."

Samuel opened the laptop, his eyes narrowing as he reviewed the forged paternity report I had kept in my bag. "This specimen number... this dead doctor's signature... Evelyn was sloppy. She used an old template from my private clinic's server."
He closed the laptop with a sharp snap. "They thought I was retired and powerless in Switzerland. They thought you were broken. Tomorrow is the groundbreaking ceremony for the New Horizon Airport Terminal. Carter and Evelyn are hosting a live press conference with the governor. We are going to give them a presentation they will never forget."
