Chapter 3 - The Reconstruction

For the next two days, my hospital room became a war room. While I healed and nursed Leo, Samuel brought in top-tier corporate attorneys, forensic computer analysts, and federal prosecutors who owed their careers to his medical philanthropy.

"The framework Nora designed is the backbone of the entire five-billion-dollar airport project," Marcus Vance, the lead federal prosecutor, explained as he analyzed the files from my flash drive. "Without her certified seal, the contract violates federal safety regulations. If Carter utilized it without an active licensing agreement, it’s not just a civil lawsuit—it’s federal procurement fraud."

"And the forgery?" I asked, looking up as Leo stirred in his bassinet.

"Class three felony," Marcus said. "Evelyn signed the corporate affidavit under penalty of perjury. We don't just have enough to reverse the divorce settlement, Nora. We have enough to liquidate Vale Development entirely."

Samuel stood by the window, watching the rain clear over the Dallas skyline. "Carter always wanted to build a legacy that surpassed mine. He was so blinded by greed that he didn't realize a foundation built on sand always collapses. Nora, are you strong enough to stand before them?"

I looked down at my hands, which were still rough and calloused from weeks of hard labor, then at my beautiful son. "I ran red lights to give my son a future, Samuel. I can face a boardroom of cowards."
