Chapter 5 - SANCTUARY IN LIGHT
The maternity wing of Westbridge General Hospital was a stark contrast to the shadowy, clinical halls of St. Catherine's. Warm lighting, soft teal walls, and the gentle, reassuring sounds of medical monitors created an atmosphere of safety and quiet dignity.
At 6:42 AM, as the first rays of golden morning sunlight broke through the storm clouds outside, a sharp, loud cry echoed through Delivery Room Four.
"It's a girl!" Dr. Lin announced, lifting a tiny, perfect newborn infant wrapped in a warm sterile towel. "Born at thirty-four weeks and two days, weighing four pounds, eight ounces. She's breathing on her own, Grace! She's strong!"
Grace wept openly, laying her head back against the pillows as Dr. Lin placed the tiny baby gently onto her chest. The newborn's small, delicate fingers instantly reached out, curling tightly around Grace's index finger.
"Hello, my little girl," Grace sobbed softly, kissing the baby's soft forehead. "You're safe. We made it."
Standing near the corner of the delivery room, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, Detective Elena Ruiz smiled—a rare, genuine smile that reached her eyes.
A nurse walked over to Grace, holding a clipboard. "Mrs. Bennett, what would you like to name her?"
Grace looked up from her daughter's face, turning her eyes toward Elena.
"Her name is Faith," Grace said clearly, her voice vibrating with a newly discovered, unbreakable strength. "Faith Elena Bennett."
Elena felt a lump form in her throat. She stepped over to the side of the bed, looking down at the tiny miracle sleeping soundly on Grace's chest.
"That's a beautiful name, Grace," Elena whispered softly.
At that moment, the delivery room door opened quietly. Prosecutor Marcus Vance stepped inside, accompanied by a tall, elegant woman in a navy suit carrying a sleek leather briefcase.
"Grace," Marcus said gently. "I'd like you to meet Victoria Sterling, senior partner at Sterling & Cross Legal. She is the top family law and victims' rights attorney in the state, and she has agreed to represent you pro bono."
Victoria Sterling stepped forward, offering a warm, reassuring smile as she handed Grace a fresh business card.
"Mrs. Bennett," Victoria said, her tone filled with absolute legal confidence. "I've reviewed the evidence Detective Ruiz and Prosecutor Vance gathered overnight. By 10:00 AM today, we will be filing for an immediate divorce, full legal and physical custody of Faith, a permanent restraining order, and a forty-million-dollar civil lawsuit against Caleb Bennett, Margaret Bennett, and St. Catherine's Hospital for civil rights violations, medical malpractice, and intentional infliction of emotional distress."
Grace looked from Victoria to Marcus, and finally to Elena. The paralyzing fear that had consumed her life for the last eight months had completely vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of justice and protection.

"Will they be able to hurt us again?" Grace asked softly.
Victoria Sterling smiled, a sharp, fiercely competitive glint flashing in her eyes. "Mrs. Bennett, by the time I am finished with them, the Bennett family won't have enough money left to buy a ticket out of state."
