At 2:17 in the morning, the front doors of the Westbridge Police Station flew open hard enough to strike the wall.

Three months later.

The County Superior Courthouse was filled to capacity for the final custody and civil protection hearings in the matter of Bennett v. Bennett.

The courtroom was silent as Circuit Court Judge Patricia Reyes sat on the bench, reviewing a massive binder of evidence submitted by Prosecutor Marcus Vance and civil attorney Victoria Sterling.

Sitting at the plaintiff's table was Grace Bennett.

She looked stunning—wearing a tailored cream pantsuit, her brown hair styled neatly, her eyes bright, clear, and filled with radiant health. In her arms, she held baby Faith, who was now three months old, healthy, chubby-cheeked, and dressed in a soft pink sweater. Beside her sat Detective Elena Ruiz, who had stayed by Grace's side through every step of her recovery.

Across the room, sitting at the defense table in orange county jail jumpsuits, were Caleb Bennett, Richard Bennett, and Margaret Bennett. Their high-priced defense lawyers looked utterly defeated, having already failed to dismiss any of the forty-two criminal counts filed against their clients.

Judge Reyes adjusted her reading glasses, looking down at the defense table with deep, stern condemnation.

"In my thirty years on the judicial bench," Judge Reyes began, her voice echoing with absolute authority, "I have rarely witnessed a more appalling, calculated, and monstrous abuse of power, wealth, and medical authority than what was inflicted upon Grace Bennett."

Judge Reyes picked up her silver gavel.

"It is the ruling of this court," Judge Reyes announced, "that Grace Bennett is granted sole legal and physical custody of Faith Elena Bennett, with zero visitation rights granted to Caleb Bennett or his family. Furthermore, a permanent, lifelong restraining order is hereby issued against Caleb, Richard, and Margaret Bennett."

Grace let out a soft, emotional sigh, holding Faith tightly against her chest as Victoria Sterling squeezed her shoulder in victory.

"Regarding the civil claims," Judge Reyes continued, "the court approves the immediate dissolution of marriage and orders the complete forfeiture of Caleb Bennett's rights to any marital property, alongside a forty-five million dollar civil judgment levied against the Bennett estate and St. Catherine's Hospital for damages."

Caleb put his head down on the defense table, weeping hysterically, while his mother collapsed into her chair in utter ruin.

Judge Reyes turned her eyes toward Grace, her expression softening into one of profound judicial warmth.

"Mrs. Bennett," Judge Reyes said gently. "You demonstrated unimaginable courage on the night you ran into that police station. You saved your child, and you brought a dangerous criminal ring to justice. This court wishes you and your daughter a life of peace, security, and boundless happiness."
