Chapter 7 - THE CRUMBLING EMPIRE

At 11:30 AM, the peaceful, tree-lined suburban street of Oakridge Estates was shattered by the sound of multiple police sirens.

Five black state police cruisers and three unmarked federal vehicles pulled into the circular driveway of the grand Bennett family mansion.

Caleb Bennett, his father Richard Bennett, and his mother Margaret were sitting in the formal parlor with their team of high-priced defense attorneys, frantically reviewing financial records and court filings.

Suddenly, the front heavy oak doors were pushed open.

Detective Elena Ruiz, accompanied by Marcus Vance and a squad of federal agents carrying execution warrants, stepped into the marble foyer.

"What is the meaning of this intrusion?!" Richard Bennett, an imposing man in a pristine charcoal suit, roared as he stepped into the foyer. "Do you know who I am?! I am the chairman of the St. Catherine's Medical Foundation!"

Elena pulled a thick stack of federal arrest warrants from her coat, unfolding them with deliberate slowness.

"Richard Bennett," Elena declared, her voice echoing off the high marble ceilings. "You are under arrest for federal healthcare fraud, forgery, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit deprivation of civil rights under color of law."

Richard's jaw dropped. The arrogance that had defined his life evaporated in a single second.

Two federal agents stepped forward, grabbing Richard's arms and clicking steel handcuffs around his wrists.

"Caleb Bennett," Marcus Vance announced, stepping toward the younger man, who was backing away toward the grand staircase in total shock. "You are under arrest for felony domestic abuse, unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit medical kidnapping, and corporate fraud."

"No! This is insane!" Caleb screamed, struggling as an agent seized his arms. "My wife is crazy! She made all of this up! Ask my lawyer!"

Attorney Arthur Vance stepped back, holding up his hands, rapidly distancing himself from his clients as he realized the overwhelming weight of the federal indictment. "I... I am merely outside legal counsel! I have no involvement in internal medical operations!"

Margaret Bennett let out a piercing shriek as an agent took her arm. "You can't do this to us! We are the Bennetts! We own half this city!"

"You don't own Grace Bennett anymore, Mrs. Bennett," Elena said coldly, watching as the family was led out in handcuffs past their wealthy neighbors who had gathered along the sidewalk to watch the spectacle.

As Caleb was forced into the back of a police cruiser, he looked at Elena, his face twisted in desperate rage.

"Where is she?!" Caleb yelled through the open window. "Where is my daughter?!"

Elena leaned down, looking him straight in the eyes.

"She's with her mother," Elena said softly. "In a place where you will never, ever reach them again."
