Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of Morrison

By Wednesday afternoon, the demolition of Morrison Enterprises was moving faster than any corporate restructuring in state history.

With Protocol 7 fully locked into every banking node, the courts granted emergency receivership to Apex Global Holdings. Diane’s colonial estate on Elmwood Avenue—mortgaged up to ninety-five percent of its value to cover Brendan’s speculative debts—was officially seized by federal liquidators.

News vans crowded the perimeter of Bennett Street as municipal sheriffs posted bright red foreclosure notices across the grand double doors where Diane had spent decades lording her social superiority over the neighborhood.

I sat in my private study at the mountain estate outside the city, watching the live news broadcast on my tablet while sipping sparkling water.

Mrs. Gable, my loyal housekeeper of ten years, walked in carrying a tray of fresh pastries and smiled warmly.

"They’re taking down the wrought-iron gates at the Elmwood property this afternoon, Madam," Mrs. Gable reported gently. "Mrs. Morrison was spotted trying to load her suitcases into a rented sedan, but the repo agents wouldn't even let her take her designer handbags."

I looked up from the screen, feeling a profound sense of quiet liberation.

"Let her learn what it feels like to carry your own bags, Mrs. Gable," I murmured. "Nobody handed her anything; she just spent her whole life pretending she built the castle when she was only ever a squatter."

My phone chimed on the desk. It was a secure encrypted message from Marcus, the lead litigator handling my divorce proceedings.

Filing complete. Total asset forfeiture granted. Custody of the unborn child awarded exclusively to maternal petitioner with zero visitation rights granted to paternal lineage due to demonstrated psychological hostility and criminal exposure.

I locked the screen, letting out a long, slow breath. The nightmare was officially over. The shadows of a marriage built on deceit and condescension had been completely burned away by the cold, clear light of absolute truth.
