Chapter 9 - The Unwritten Page

Six months later.
The private pediatric wing of the newly inaugurated Cassidy Vance Foundation Medical Center was a masterpiece of natural light, soothing colors, and state-of-the-art care.
I walked down the sunlit corridor holding the tiny, warm hand of my daughter, Clara, who was now six months old—bright-eyed, healthy, and overflowing with an infectious, joyful laugh.
Photographs of smiling mothers and thriving children lined the walls. There were no locked doors here. No cold water. No condescending sners from women who thought their bank accounts defined their souls.
Mrs. Gable walked beside us, carrying Clara’s diaper bag and smiling indulgently as the baby reached out to grab a shiny brass door handle.
"She has your determination, Madam," Mrs. Gable chuckled softly. "She wants to open every door she sees."
"Let her," I smiled, lifting Clara up into my arms and kissing her soft cheek. "She’ll never find a locked door in her life unless she chooses to build it herself—and even then, she’ll hold the key."

Outside the large glass windows of the medical center, the city skyline gleamed brilliantly under a clear blue sky. Apex Tower stood tall and proud in the distance, a monument to vision, resilience, and unyielding strength.
My ex-husband was serving a federal sentence for corporate fraud. His mother was living in obscurity, forgotten by the society she had worshipped. And I was standing in the sunlight, holding my daughter, absolute sovereign of my own destiny.
