Chapter 8 - The Heritage of Strength

Friday evening arrived with a breathtaking sunset that painted the Colorado foothills in brilliant shades of violet, amber, and gold.
I stood on the wide wooden back deck of the mountain estate, wrapping a soft cashmere shawl around my shoulders as I watched the sun dip below the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains.
My pregnancy was entering its final, beautiful trimester. Every kick, every movement of my daughter was a vibrant, unstoppable reminder of why I had refused to break when the ice water hit my hair. I hadn't fought back with screams or tears because I knew that true power didn't need to shout. True power simply existed, immutable and absolute.
Footsteps echoed softly behind me on the wooden planks.
Arthur walked out onto the deck, holding a secure leather portfolio. He stopped beside me, looking out at the magnificent horizon.
"The transition is complete, Cassidy," Arthur said, his tone softening from professional formality to genuine warmth. "Morrison Enterprises has been fully rebranded under the Apex philanthropic trust. The former assets are now being used to fund maternal healthcare clinics and domestic support shelters across the state."
I smiled, resting a hand gently against my abdomen.
"Good," I whispered. "Let something beautiful grow out of the ashes of their arrogance."
May you like
Arthur smiled faintly, nodding in agreement. "You know, when you first married Brendan three years ago, I thought you were just playing a quiet game of domestic romance. I never imagined you'd endure their insults for so long without blinking."
"When you own the mountain, Arthur," I replied, turning my gaze to meet his, "you don't need to argue with the rocks rolling down the hill. You just wait for gravity to do its job."
