Chapter 10 - The Family Verrone

One year later.
The Verrone estate on the Upper East Side stood golden under a warm October sun. The grand iron gates were decorated with white roses, silk ribbons, and glittering fairy lights that stretched across the manicured gardens.
Inside the grand hall, the crystal chandeliers threw soft light over two hundred guests. But this time, it was not a cold syndicate summit. It was a wedding.
Don Emilio Castri sat near the front, wearing a handsome suit, laughing with Rafael Conti over champagne. The heads of the Five Families were all present, but there were no weapons drawn tonight—only smiles, respect, and peace.
At the front of the hall, standing before an altar of white orchids, stood Damiano Verrone. He looked devastatingly handsome in a bespoke black tuxedo, his grey eyes bright with joy. Beside him stood Rafael as his best man.
The string quartet began to play a soft, romantic Italian melody.
The heavy mahogany doors opened.
Walking down the marble aisle first was seven-year-old Mia. She wore a fluffy white flower-girl dress, a crown of small yellow roses in her hair, carrying a basket of rose petals. Around her neck hung her silver locket, glinting under the lights. She beamed radiantly at Damiano, tossing petals with enthusiasm.
Behind her came Elena.
She looked breathtaking in a sweeping lace wedding gown, her dark hair styled in soft waves, holding a bouquet of white lilies. Her eyes were fixed entirely on Damiano—the man who had protected her, loved her, and given her daughter a father.
When Elena reached the altar, Damiano took her hands, his thumb gently stroking her skin as the priest began the ceremony.
"Do you, Damiano Verrone, take Elena Rossi to be your wedded wife..."
"I do," Damiano answered, his voice clear, strong, and unwavering, echoing across the grand hall.
"And do you, Elena Rossi, take Damiano Verrone to be your wedded husband..."
"I do," Elena smiled, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest smiled. "You may kiss the bride."
Damiano pulled Elena into his arms, kissing her deeply as the entire hall erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and standing ovations from bosses, soldiers, and friends alike.
When they pulled back, Mia squeezed herself between them, grabbing Damiano’s hand on one side and Elena’s on the other.
Damiano crouched down, looking into Mia's bright, happy eyes.
"Well, Mia?" Damiano asked with a warm, gentle smile. "Your one-day daddy contract expired a long time ago. What do you think now?"
Mia wrapped her small arms around his neck, kissing his cheek softly.

"You're not my one-day daddy anymore," Mia giggled happily into his ear. "You're my forever daddy."
Damiano picked up his daughter in one arm, wrapped his other arm securely around his new wife, and looked out over his home—a man who had started with an empire of stone, and had finally found an empire of love.
