Chapter 10 - A Garden Built on Love

One year later.
The morning sun cast a warm, golden light across the rear yard of our estate.
Where the cold, dark wooden shed once stood, there was now a breathtaking, lush garden filled with blooming white roses, lavender, and fresh fruit trees. In the center of the garden stood a beautiful wooden gazebo, surrounded by soft green grass and a small, sparkling fountain.
I sat on a wooden bench near the fountain, holding a warm cup of coffee, watching my family.
Elena was standing near the rose bushes, wearing a simple white sun dress. Her skin was glowing, her cheeks full and healthy, and her eyes were filled with a deep, peaceful joy that no trauma could ever take away again. She was currently finishing her degree in interior design, pursuing the dreams she had put on hold years ago.
Across the lawn, six-year-old Julian was running freely, laughing under the bright blue sky. He was healthy, strong, and tall for his age, his face bright with innocence. He was carrying a remote-controlled toy boat I had bought him, heading toward the small pond at the edge of the garden.
"Daddy! Look!" Julian shouted, turning around and waving at me with a massive, brilliant smile. "Watch how fast it goes!"
"I'm watching, buddy!" I called back, smiling warmly as I raised my hand.
Elena walked over to the bench, sitting down beside me and leaning her head gently against my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her close, resting my cheek against her soft hair.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked softly, her fingers lacing through mine.
"I was thinking about the desert," I whispered, looking out over the garden we had built together. "About how I used to stare at the sand at night, wondering if all the sweat and pain were worth it."
Elena raised her head, looking into my eyes with infinite tenderness, and kissed my lips softly.
"And was it?" she asked softly.
May you like
I looked at my son laughing by the pond, then down at my wife holding my hand tightly in the morning warmth.
"Every single second," I said, a deep, unwavering peace filling my heart. "Because everything I fought for is right here. And no one will ever take it away again."
