Chapter 4 - The Tearing of the Mask

Silence fell over the room like an anvil. The thirty distinguished guests—local businessmen, city council members, and wealthy socialites—stared at my mother in total disbelief.

"Lock... locked from the outside?" Evelyn stammered, her hands twitching as she clutched her diamond necklace. "I... I don't know what you're talking about! Victoria must have locked it by mistake to keep strays out!"

"A mistake?" I took a step forward, my heavy boots leaving dark, muddy footprints on the pristine white marble floor. "For five years, Mother. Five years."

I set Julian down gently behind me, instructing Elena to hold him close. Then, I pulled a thick leather binder from my travel bag and threw it onto the grand dining table, directly into a bowl of expensive soup.

THUD.

"These are the bank transfer receipts," I announced loudly to the entire room. "$8,000 every single month for sixty months. Nearly half a million dollars sent directly from Saudi Arabia to Evelyn’s private account."

I looked at the wealthy guests. "My mother told me this money was going toward Elena’s comfort, my son’s education, and the upkeep of this home. Instead, she locked my wife and son in a windowless shed, fed them stale scraps, and forced Elena to act as an unpaid slave while she and Victoria threw parties for all of you!"

Gasps of horror echoed around the table. Several guests stood up immediately, looking at Evelyn with absolute disgust.

"Evelyn... is this true?" an older gentleman, a prominent local banker, demanded, his face red with indignation. "You told us your daughter-in-law ran off with another man! You told us you were supporting Julian’s son yourself!"

"It's a lie!" Victoria screamed, stepping up beside her mother, her face twisted in rage. "Julian has gone crazy in the desert! He’s making this up to ruin our family name! Get out of our house, Elena! Get out before I call the police for trespassing!"

"Your house?" I turned my gaze toward Victoria, my voice dropping into an icy register. "Look closely at the deed of this property, Victoria. Every square inch of this land, every brick of this house, and every piece of furniture inside it is registered under my name and Elena’s name."

Victoria’s jaw snapped shut.

"I paid for the luxury car you drove here tonight," I continued, pointing my finger at her face. "I paid for the diamond necklace on Mother’s neck. I paid for the vintage wine in your glasses. And tonight, the free ride ends."

I turned to the guests, my expression unreadable. "The party is over. Leave my house now before I have the police clear the property."

The guests didn't hesitate. Within three minutes, whispering furiously among themselves and casting glances of absolute contempt at Evelyn and Victoria, every single guest hurried out the front doors, leaving my mother and sister standing alone in the wrecked dining room.

Evelyn collapsed into a chair, breathing heavily, while Victoria stood trembling with rage and fear.

"Julian... please," Evelyn whimpered, trying to summon tears. "I'm your mother... I did what I had to do to preserve our family’s reputation..."

"You are not my mother," I said softly, looking down at her as if she were a stranger. "You are a thief. And tomorrow, you're going to find out what happens when the man who built your kingdom decides to tear it down."
