Chapter 10 - Everlasting Light

Five years later.
The historic archives of Lombardy held many stories of powerful dynasties that had ruled Milan over the centuries. But none was as celebrated, as deeply revered, or as legendary as the reign of Don Alessandro Moretti and his beloved Matriarch, Clara.
Under their guidance, the Moretti family had completely abandoned the underworld, transforming their vast operations into one of Europe's largest shipping, philanthropic, and renewable energy conglomerates. The violence that had once defined the northern territories was a distant memory, replaced by prosperity, justice, and absolute security.
On a warm summer evening, the private courtyard of Villa Moretti was illuminated by hundreds of soft paper lanterns hanging from the ancient olive trees.
A grand piano stood near the central fountain, where eight-year-old Emma sat gracefully on the bench, her slender fingers moving effortlessly across the ivory keys, playing a beautiful classical melody that echoed through the quiet night air. Sitting beside her on the piano bench was her three-year-old brother, Leo, who clapped his small hands in rhythm, clutching a brand-new plush lion that matched his sister's famous blue rabbit.
I stood on the stone balcony overlooking the garden, leaning back against Alessandro's broad chest as he held me tightly in his arms.
My hair was pinned up loosely, catching the gentle summer breeze. My hand rested over Alessandro's arms, which were wrapped possessively around my waist, keeping me warm and secure within his powerful embrace.
"Look at them, Alessandro," I murmured softly, watching our children play together under the soft lantern light. "Eight years ago, I walked through these gates with a mop and a broken heart. I thought my life was over."
Alessandro turned me around slowly in his arms, looking down at my face with a love that had only grown deeper, fiercer, and more profound with every passing year.
"Eight years ago," Alessandro spoke, his gravelly voice filled with absolute devotion, "a queen walked into my fortress disguised as a housekeeper. She taught a broken man how to live, healed an empire with her courage, and gave me a life beyond my wildest dreams."
He reached up, his large hand gently cupping my face, his thumb running over my lips just as he had done on the night he promised to protect me.
"I love you, Clara Moretti," Alessandro whispered, his dark eyes shining like stars under the night sky. "Beyond life, beyond power, beyond time itself."

"I love you, Alessandro Moretti," I answered softly, standing on my tiptoes to press my lips against his. "My Don, my protector, my eternal home."
Beneath the glowing paper lanterns, amidst the sweet music played by our daughter and the soft laughter of our son, we kissed under the starry Italian sky—a family bound not by fear or blood, but by an everlasting light that would burn brightly for generations to come.
