Chapter 9 - The Family Complete

Two years later.

The quiet afternoon sun dipped low over Lake Como, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold, orange, and deep purple.

The grand terrace of Villa Moretti was filled with the sweet sounds of family life. A long wooden dining table was set with fresh pasta, warm bread, and carafes of red wine, where Marco and several close family friends sat laughing and telling stories.

On the lush green lawn below the terrace, five-year-old Emma was leading a group of young children in a game of tag, her laughter ringing out clear and bright across the lake. Her blue rabbit sat proudly on a small stone bench nearby, dressed in a tiny handmade suit that matched Marco's formal wear.

I sat in a comfortable rocking chair on the shaded veranda, dressed in a soft white linen dress, resting my hand over my rounded belly. I was eight months pregnant with our second child—a boy whom we had already decided to name Leonardo, after Alessandro's late brother.

Alessandro walked out onto the veranda, carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade.

He handed one glass to me, then sat down on the edge of my rocking chair, wrapping one arm securely around my shoulders, drawing me close to his side. He rested his large, warm palm gently over my swollen belly, feeling the strong, steady kick of his unborn son.

"He's active today," Alessandro smiled warmly, his dark eyes shining with pure happiness as he felt the kick against his hand.

"He takes after his father," I teased gently, resting my head against his shoulder. "Always restless, always strong."

"He will grow up in a world of peace, Clara," Alessandro said softly, his voice filled with an unshakeable promise. "He will never know the shadow of war, the fear of traitors, or the stain of innocent blood. He will know only love, honor, and the strength of his mother."

I looked up at him, running my thumb over the thin scar along his jawline—the only remaining reminder of the night his villa was attacked, the night he stood between my daughter and the dark world that tried to consume us.

"We built a home, Alessandro," I whispered, holding his hand against my cheek. "A real home."

"Yes, we did, my love," he murmured, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against my lips.

Emma came running up the stone steps of the terrace, her cheeks flushed pink from playing, carrying her blue rabbit in her small hands. She ran straight over to us, leaning against Alessandro's knee.

"Daddy! Mommy! Look!" Emma pointed toward the lake, where a brilliant double rainbow stretched across the golden evening sky, reflecting off the calm blue waters.

Alessandro scooped Emma up into his lap, holding her close beside me, wrapping his large arms around all three of us—his wife, his daughter, and his unborn son.

"It's a promise, sweet girl," Alessandro whispered, looking out at the radiant sky. "A promise that the sun will always shine over our home."
