Chapter 18 - The Breach

The security system at the Malibu estate was state-of-the-art—biometric gate access, thermal perimeter sensors, and encrypted closed-circuit cameras monitored twenty-four hours a day by Dominic’s elite private security team.
Yet, the most sophisticated security system in the world is only as good as the software running it.
It was 2:15 AM. The house was wrapped in profound, peaceful slumber. The ocean waves beat a steady, hypnotic rhythm against the cliffs below.
Inside the central security monitoring room on the ground floor of the estate, Dominic sat sipping black coffee, his eyes scanning the multi-screen display. Everything was green. All perimeter sensors were normal.
Suddenly, without warning, every single monitor flickered violently.
The green status indicators turned blood-red.
Before Dominic could reach for his panic console, the screens went completely black, replaced by a looping, frozen pre-recorded loop of the empty front gate.
“What the—” Dominic muttered, slamming his hand onto the master reboot switch.
Warning: System Override. Main Server Compromised.
An automated voice echoed softly from the console speakers.
Dominic’s blood ran cold. It wasn't an external hack. It was an internal firmware exploit—a backdoor planted months ago by a professional cyber-operative who had anticipated every defensive move.
Before he could pull his sidearm or trigger the estate-wide alarm, the heavy reinforced security door of the monitoring room hissed open.
Three figures dressed head-to-toe in matte-black tactical gear, wearing night-vision goggles and suppressed carbines, stepped silently into the room.

Dominic moved with lightning speed, lunging for the desk panic button, but a synchronized burst of compressed air from a taser weapon caught him squarely in the chest. A million volts of electricity surged through his nervous system, robbing him of breath and muscle control. He collapsed heavily to the floor, his vision fading to black as the lead tactical operative stepped over his motionless body.
The estate was blind. And the wolves were inside the fold.
