Chapter 8 - The Foundation of Honor

Six months later.
Spring had returned to the city.
In downtown Manhattan, a massive crowd was gathered outside a brand-new six-story marble building. The grand glass doors were decorated with blue ribbons, and a large bronze banner hung over the entrance:
THE SOPHIA CARTER PEDIATRIC MEDICAL CENTER FUNDED BY THE BELLAVITA FOUNDATION
Reporters, city officials, doctors, and community leaders packed the plaza. It was the largest philanthropic gift in the city’s history—a fifty-million-dollar state-of-the-art facility dedicated to free medical care for low-income children.
Standing at the podium in front of the microphones was Mariah Carter.
She wore an elegant dark blue suit, her hair styled professionally, speaking with a calm, commanding confidence that mesmerized the crowd.
"This hospital was built on a simple belief," Mariah announced into the microphones, her voice echoing across the plaza. "That every child deserves to be seen, every child deserves to be protected, and that sometimes, the smallest voice can change the course of history."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.
Standing in the front row of the VIP section, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, was Rocco Bellavita.
Beside him stood Sophia, holding his hand, wearing a pretty yellow dress with matching ribbons in her dark curls.
Don Falcone from Brooklyn stood three feet away, dressed in his traditional black suit, watching the ceremony with a thoughtful expression.
"You’ve changed the game, Rocco," Falcone murmured quietly, leaning toward Rocco as the crowd cheered. "The Mayor is up there shaking your hand. The Governor sent a letter of commendation. The D.A.’s office closed three outstanding investigations against your logistics firm this morning."
"Legitimacy is the ultimate armor, Falcone," Rocco replied softly, looking down at Sophia, who was waving happily at her mother on stage. "Our grandfathers thought power came from muscle and fear. But fear fades when you grow old. True power comes from building something that the world will defend for you."

Falcone smiled, shaking his head in admiration. "And to think... it all started because a little girl didn't like her mother’s pill bottle facing the wall."
"God works through small things, Falcone," Rocco smiled. "And so do I."
