Chapter 9 - The New Generation

Three years later.

The Bellavita estate was no longer just a stronghold of the syndicate; it had become the true heart of the family.

It was a warm summer evening.

The long stone patio overlooking the Italian gardens was lit by warm string lights. A large family dinner was in full swing.

Mariah, now one of the most respected foundation executives in the northeast, was sitting with her new husband—a brilliant, gentle pediatric surgeon from the new hospital whom Rocco had thoroughly vetted through Dante’s security network.

Sophia, now eight years old, was running across the lush green lawn, playing tag with two golden retriever puppies Rocco had bought her for her birthday. Her laughter rang out through the summer air, bright, pure, and untainted by the dark world that surrounded her.

Rocco sat at the head of the stone table, sipping a rich Barolo wine.

At eight-and-a-hundred months old, his hair was completely silver, but his eyes were sharp, bright, and filled with deep satisfaction.

Dante stepped up beside his chair, handing him a quiet leather folder.

"All clear across all sectors, Boss," Dante reported quietly. "The Commission meeting in Chicago went smoothly. The new trade agreements are locked in. The Moretti line is completely extinct. The family has never been stronger."

Rocco nodded, setting the folder aside without opening it.

He didn't need to look at business reports tonight.

He looked down the table—at Mariah laughing with her husband, at Dante enjoying a glass of wine with the senior guards, and at little Sophia chasing the puppies near the rose bushes.

Four years ago, he had been sitting in a cold, paranoid bedroom, holding a white pill, surrounded by traitors, waiting for a silent death.

He had believed that his life’s work was nothing more than blood, violence, and an inevitable betraying end in an empty room.

And then, a tiny girl behind a curtain had changed everything.

Sophia came running up the patio steps, breathlessly tumbling into the chair beside Rocco, her cheeks red from running.

"Mr. Rocco!" she gasped, grabbing a strawberry from his plate. "I caught the fast puppy!"

"Did you, small one?" Rocco chuckled, reaching out to gently pat her head. "You always were good at catching things that try to run."

Sophia grinned, holding up a small, smooth blue glass marble she had found in the garden dirt.

"Look what I found under the rose bush," she said proudly. "It’s clean. And it faces the sun."

May you like

Rocco looked at the blue marble resting in her small palm, shining bright under the warm terrace lights.

"Yes, it does, Sophia," Rocco whispered, his voice rich with profound warmth and peace. "It faces the sun."
