Chapter 9 - The Promise at the River

Two months later.
A gentle summer sunset painted the sky over the Hudson River in brilliant hues of violet, orange, and soft pink.
The grand gardens of the Moretti estate were decorated with thousands of white roses and flowing silk ribbons. A simple, elegant altar had been constructed on the green lawn overlooking the water, surrounded by fifty close friends, family members, and trusted allies.
The sound of a harp drifted through the warm evening air.
Alessandro stood at the altar, looking sharp and handsome in a dark gray suit. Standing beside him as his best man was Matteo, whose face bore a proud, genuine grin.
Then the music shifted.
The crowd stood up, turning toward the rose garden.
Lily walked out first. At nearly four years old, she looked adorable in a tiny pink dress, carefully dropping white rose petals onto the green grass from a small wicker basket. She paused every three steps to smile at the guests, making the entire crowd break into warm laughter.
Then came Rosa.
She walked down the aisle on the arm of old Mr. Bruno, who held his head high with tears of immense pride in his eyes. Her wedding dress was a masterpiece of Italian lace, flowing softly behind her as she moved toward the altar. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, and she held a simple bouquet of white lilies.
When she reached the altar, Mr. Bruno gently placed her hand into Alessandro’s.
"Take care of her, Don," the old butler whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"With my life, Bruno," Alessandro replied firmly.
The priest stepped forward, his voice carrying clearly over the gentle lap of the river waves against the stone wall below.
"We are gathered here today to unite two souls who have walked through the deepest valleys of trial, loss, and shadow, only to find their way into the light of love and truth."
When the time came for the vows, Alessandro took both of Rosa’s hands into his. He didn't read from a card; he looked straight into her dark, beautiful eyes.
"Rosa," Alessandro spoke, his voice deep and steady. "For twenty years, I lived in a house built on silence and stone. I believed that my destiny was to protect an empire created by grief. But the day you and Lily walked into my life, you broke the stone. You taught me that true strength isn't found in fear, but in love. I promise to honor you, protect you, and cherish you and our daughter for every breath I have left on this earth."
Rosa wiped a joyful tear from her cheek, her smile radiant as she spoke her vows.
"Alessandro," she said softly. "When I came to your house, I was afraid of the world. I thought I was alone. But you showed me that a real man protects the weak, rights the wrongs of the past, and loves with his whole heart. You gave my daughter a father, and you gave me a home. I am yours, now and forever."

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Alessandro pulled Rosa into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss. The crowd erupted into joyous cheers, throwing white rose petals into the air as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the newborn family.
