Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Freedom

The sun was setting over the mountains of Querétaro, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, orange, and purple. Mariana sat on her apartment balcony, a notebook open in her lap, sketching a new concept for an automated home safety device.

Her phone buzzed. It was a notification from her bank, showing the final installment of her returned inheritance had been processed. The financial tie to the Hale family was officially completely severed.

She looked down at her right hand. The skin was healed, the scar a pale, clean line across her palm. She closed her hand into a tight, strong fist.

Adrian was behind bars, counting down the years in a cold concrete cell. Beatriz was confined to a small apartment, ignored by the high society that used to flatter her. Don Ramiro's name was synonymous with corruption. They had thought their wealth made them untouchable, that their house was too grand for the truth to find them.

But they had forgotten that the smallest light can shatter the heaviest darkness.

Mariana took a deep breath of the cool night air. She was twenty-six years old, independent, wealthy, and entirely free. Her life wasn't a prison anymore; it was a blank canvas, and she held the brush.

She smiled, turned off her balcony light, and walked inside, leaving the shadows of the past behind her forever.
