Chapter 9 - The New Design

One year later, Mariana was living in a beautiful, modest apartment in the center of Querétaro. She had gone back to university, enrolling in an industrial design program—the very passion Adrian had forced her to abandon when they married.
She was no longer the quiet girl who lived on permission. She drove her own car, managed her own bank accounts, and her social media wasn't filled with staged, fake family photos, but with sketches of her designs and updates on the shelter she had successfully opened.
The shelter was named La Luz Azul—The Blue Light.
One evening, Mariana attended the opening ceremony for a new wing of the shelter. The garden was full of families, children playing safely on the lawn, and women who were finally learning to breathe without fear.

Natalia Torres walked up to her, holding a small plaque. "We wanted to dedicate this wing to you, Mariana. Your courage changed the legal precedent in this state. Because of your case, hidden digital evidence under active protection orders is now fast-tracked through the courts."
Mariana smiled, touching the smooth brass of the plaque with her scarred palm. The scar didn't hurt anymore; it felt like a medal of honor. "We didn't just destroy one powerful family, Natalia. We gave power back to hundreds of others."
