Chapter 1 - The Scene in the Foyer

The silence that blanketed the grand lobby of the Grand Alcazar Hotel was absolute, heavy enough to drown out the crystal chiming of champagne flutes and the low hum of jazz from the lounge.

Julian Rossi stood rigid as a statue, his dark eyes locked onto the woman standing before him. Eight months. Eight unbearable, tormenting months of searching, agonizing, and slowly drowning in a sea of whiskey and unanswerable questions. He had hired elite private investigators, tracking false leads across Europe and South America, only to be met with dead ends. He had believed she abandoned him—that the love they built was nothing more than a fragile glass palace that shattered at the first sign of pressure.

And now, here she was.

Wearing a cheap, charcoal-grey housekeeping uniform, her delicate hands calloused and red, holding the stainless-steel handle of a industrial cleaning cart. But what paralyzed Julian’s beating heart was her stomach. The gentle, unmistakable curve under her loose tunic. She was heavily pregnant—at least seven or eight months along.

"Julian... baby, what are you doing?" Camila’s voice pierced the silence, sharp and dripping with irritation. She pulled harder on his arm, her manicured nails digging into his expensive suit jacket. "Everyone is looking at us. It’s just a maid. Let the hotel staff handle her."

Julian didn't even look at Camila. With a swift, harsh motion, he shook off her grip. His eyes never left Elena’s pale face.

"Julian, please," Elena whispered, her voice barely audible, trembling like a leaf in an autumn gale. She lowered her head, avoiding his piercing gaze. "You are causing a scene. Please... return to your guest suite."

"Return to my suite?" Julian took a step forward, his voice rising, thick with suppressed rage and raw heartbreak. "You vanish from our home without a single word! You leave your wedding ring on the vanity! I spent eight months thinking you hated me, thinking you ran away with someone else... and I find you here, scrubbing floors while carrying my child?!"

A collective gasp echoed across the lobby. High-society women behind diamond-encrusted fans whispered furiously. The general manager of the resort, Mr. Vane, rushed toward them, sweating profusely under his collar.

"Mr. Rossi! Sir! Please, allow us to escort this employee to the back office immediately," Mr. Vane stammered, casting a furious glare at Elena. "She knows the rules. Housekeeping staff are strictly forbidden from interacting with VIP guests. Elena, go to the basement now!"

"If you lay a single hand on her, Vane, I will buy this hotel by midnight and fire you before dawn," Julian growled, turning a deadly glare onto the manager. The aura of cold, lethal authority that made Julian a billionaire in European real estate flared to life instantly. Mr. Vane froze in his tracks, bowing his head in terror.

Elena squeezed her eyes shut as tears finally spilled over her long eyelashes. She gripped the metal cart to steady herself, a sudden spasm of exhaustion making her knees buckle slightly.

Julian was by her side in a split second. Ignoring the dirt on her uniform, ignoring the eyes of the elite crowd, he wrapped his arm firmly around her waist, catching her weight before she could fall. The moment his touch met her skin, a shiver ran through both of them.

"Don't touch me..." Elena sobbed softly, trying to push his chest, but her strength was gone. "Julian, you don't understand... you shouldn't be here. They'll know..."

"Who will know, Elena? Who?" Julian demanded, his voice dropping into an urgent, desperate whisper. He looked down at her rounded belly, his hand instinctively resting over the fabric. He felt a sudden, soft kick against his palm—a tiny life stirring within her. Tears welled up in his own eyes. "This is my baby. You are my wife. I am not letting you out of my sight ever again."

Camila stepped forward, her face twisted in rage and humiliation. "Julian! Are you out of your mind?! You're making a fool of both of us for this servant! If you don't walk away right now, my father will pull out of the merger!"

Julian looked up at Camila, his eyes colder than ice. "Tell your father to go to hell. Our deal is off. And you—get out of my sight before I have security remove you."

May you like

"You bastard!" Camila shrieked, stamping her designer heel before spinning around and marching out through the revolving doors, her emerald gown trailing behind her.

Julian turned back to Elena, lifting her up into his arms despite her soft protests. He looked at the trembling hotel manager. "Clear the presidential suite. Get the best private doctor in the city here in twenty minutes. Now!"
