Chapter 8 - The Birth of Hope

"It’s a boy," Dr. Vance announced, a weary smile breaking across his face as he held up the small, wriggling newborn. "A strong, resilient boy, Mr. Rossi."
Julian froze. He looked from the doctor to the tiny creature, then down at Elena, who was crying soft, exhausted tears of absolute relief.
The nurse wrapped the baby in a warm, sterile blanket and gently placed him into Julian’s trembling arms. Julian, a titan of industry who had negotiated multi-billion-dollar deals without shedding a single tear, stood completely paralyzed in awe. The baby had a tuft of dark hair just like his mother’s and opened two tiny, piercing dark eyes to look up at his father.
"Gabriel..." Julian breathed, his voice breaking as a single tear escaped down his cheek, landing gently on the baby's blanket.
He walked over to Elena’s side, kneeling beside the head of the bed so she could see their son.
"Look at him, Elena," Julian whispered, holding Gabriel close so Elena could press her lips against the baby's soft forehead. "He’s perfect. He’s safe."
"He has your eyes, Julian..." Elena smiled faintly before her eyelids fluttered closed from total physical exhaustion.
While Elena slept, Julian sat in the rocking chair beside the cradle in the private nursery room, refusing to sleep or leave his family's side. Anton knocked softly and stepped into the room, holding an encrypted tablet.
"Boss," Anton whispered, keeping his voice low so as not to wake the infant. "The police finished their preliminary interrogation of Camila Vance. Under threat of thirty years in federal prison, she signed a full confession detailing how Marcus paid her father to manipulate company stocks and how she personally authorized the hotel manager at the Grand Alcazar to keep Elena isolated in housekeeping under a fake identity."
Julian didn't take his eyes off Gabriel's soft, rhythmic chest rising and falling in the crib.
"Ensure the prosecutors seek the maximum possible sentence for every single co-conspirator," Julian said, his voice flat, emotionless, and absolute. "No bail. No plea bargains. Every person who made my wife suffer will serve every second of their lives behind bars."

"Consider it done, Mr. Rossi."
Julian stood up, walking over to the window that overlooked the estate’s vast, sunlit gardens. The long night of uncertainty, violence, and terror was finally drawing to a close. For eight months, he had fought ghosts in the dark. Today, holding his son in his arms, he had brought his family back into the light.
