Chapter 4 - A Safe Haven Broken

The private helicopter touched down smoothly on the helipad of the Alpine fortress—a secluded, heavily guarded estate nestled high in the Swiss mountains. For years, Julian had kept this sanctuary off the grid, a place reserved strictly for moments of high-level threat.

Julian gently helped Elena out of the cabin, wrapping a heavy cashmere blanket around her shoulders to shield her from the crisp mountain wind. She leaned against him, her body still weak, her hand instinctively resting on her rounded stomach.

"Is this place safe, Julian?" she asked, her eyes scanning the pine-forested ridges surrounding the chalet.

"It’s the safest place on earth," Julian said softly, pressing a kiss to her temple. "My private security team has locked down the entire perimeter. Marcus and his men can't touch you here."

Inside, the estate was warm and fully staffed with medical personnel and elite guards. For the first time in eight grueling months, Elena sank into a plush, heated bed without the fear of being tracked down or thrown into the street. Julian stayed by her bedside, holding her hand until her breathing slowed into a deep, restful sleep.

However, peace was short-lived.

Downstairs in the central command room, Anton called Julian over to a bank of security monitors.

"Boss, we have a problem," Anton said, his face grave. "Marcus isn't just targeting your seat on the board. He's weaponizing the press. Camila’s family just released a statement claiming you assaulted her in the hotel lobby and that you've kidnapped a mentally unstable former employee."

"They're painting Elena as a stalker," Julian’s eyes flashed with dangerous fire. "They want to invalidate anything she says before she can testify in front of the board."

"It gets worse," Anton pointed to a satellite thermal tracker on the monitor. "Three black SUVs just crossed the border control checkpoint five miles down the mountain pass. They aren't registered transport. They're mercenaries hired by Viktor."

Julian’s jaw tightened. Marcus was desperate. Knowing that Elena's live testimony would destroy him at the board meeting in two days, he was moving to silence her permanently before Julian could secure her legally.

"Activate perimeter defenses," Julian ordered, his voice dropping into a lethal, icy calm. "Block the main access road. They think they're hunting a trapped deer, but they just walked into a firing squad."

Moments later, the sound of muffled gunfire and screeching tires echoed up the valley. Julian stood in the darkness of the upper terrace, a sniper rifle resting lightly against his shoulder. He watched as his security detail systematically intercepted and neutralized the incoming vehicles, trapping Marcus’s hit squad in a narrow mountain ravine.

Within twenty minutes, the threat was eliminated. Anton walked up to the terrace, handing Julian a encrypted satellite phone recovered from one of the captured mercenaries.

"Viktor was on the line waiting for confirmation of the hit," Anton reported.

Julian took the phone, brought it to his ear, and spoke with terrifying quiet:

"Tell Marcus he missed his last chance. When I see him in two days, it won't be in a boardroom. It will be in a cell."
