Chapter 7 - Trials of the Heart

The fallout from Marcus’s arrest tore through the financial world like a hurricane. Rossi Enterprises stock stabilized almost immediately as Julian asserted absolute control over the board, stripping his stepbrother’s allies of every power and asset they held. But inside the high-security Rossi family villa, away from the flashing cameras, a far more fragile battle was being fought.

The immense psychological stress of the boardroom confrontation had taken a severe toll on Elena.

Late that evening, while Julian was reviewing legal documents in the study, a faint glass shatter echoed down the hall. Julian dropped his pen and sprinted to their master suite, finding Elena kneeling on the cold hardwood floor, clutching her abdomen, her face completely drained of color.

"Elena!" Julian dropped to his knees, catching her in his arms.

"Julian... it hurts..." she gasped, her knuckles turning white against his shirt. "The baby... it's too early... it's only eight months..."

Panic—a emotion Julian Rossi rarely felt—surged through his veins like ice water. Within six minutes, the villa’s dedicated medical team, stationed on-site after their return from Switzerland, rushed into the suite with a mobile gurney. Dr. Vance immediately performed an emergency assessment while Julian held Elena’s hand, refusing to leave her side for even a fraction of a second.

"She’s in early labor triggered by elevated cortisol levels," Dr. Vance said, his tone urgent as he monitored the fetal heart rate monitor. "The baby’s heart rate is spiking, then dropping dramatically. We can't wait. We need to perform an emergency Cesarean section right now in our medical wing."

Julian’s heart slammed against his ribs. "Is she going to be okay? Are they both going to be okay?!"

"I will do everything in my power, Mr. Rossi. Stay outside."

"No," Julian growled, his voice trembling with a mixture of terror and unyielding devotion. "I am staying in that room with my wife."

The medical wing transformed into an arena of chaotic precision. Sanitized surgical lights blinded Julian as he stood in scrubs by Elena’s head, stroking her damp hair and whispering endless promises into her ear while the surgical team worked behind the sterile curtain.

"Look at me, Elena," Julian whispered, his voice cracking as tears filled his eyes. "Look at me. You survived eight months of hell to keep us safe. You are the strongest person I have ever known. Don't you dare give up on me now."

"Julian..." Elena weak voice murmured under the oxygen mask, her eyes glassy. "Promise me... if something happens... save our son..."

"Nothing is happening to either of you!" Julian demanded, pressing his forehead against hers. "We survive this together. Do you hear me? Together."

For forty-five grueling minutes, time seemed to expand and freeze. The sharp beep of the heart monitor was the only rhythmic reminder of life in the room. Then, precisely at 2:14 AM, the steady metallic clicks of surgical tools gave way to a sudden, piercing sound that shattered the heavy tension in the air.

A sharp, healthy cry echoed throughout the room.
