Chapter 4 - The Demolition

"Alexander," Maximus said, turning her back on her ex-husband. "I am tired. My back hurts, and my baby needs rest."

"Go to the jet, sweet sister," Alexander’s voice softened instantly, his tone laced with absolute tenderness as he kissed her forehead. "The medical team has prepared a suite for you. We will finish the paperwork here."

Maximus nodded, stepping out of the ruined foyer without looking back once.

The moment the doors closed behind her, the atmosphere inside the Sterling mansion turned sub-zero.

Alexander walked slowly toward the marble fireplace, pulling out a sleek leather folder from his coat. "Sterling Shipping. Total asset valuation: Forty-two million dollars. Total liabilities: Sixty-eight million dollars. As of six minutes ago, the Valerius Syndicate holds one hundred percent of your debt."

"Please," Liam begged, crawling across the floor toward Alexander’s polished shoes. "Please, Mr. Valerius! We can work this out! She's carrying my child! We're family!"

Cassian kicked Liam’s hand away with cold disgust. "Family? You accused her of infidelity. You threatened to steal her child. You let your mistress wear her ring while she stood in the freezing rain."

Cassian pulled out a tablet and tapped the screen.

"Item one," Cassian read aloud. "The Sterling Estate. Foreclosed. You have ten minutes to vacate the premises before my security teams forcibly remove you."

"Ten minutes?!" Martha cried out, tears ruining her expensive makeup. "This is my home! You can't do this!"

"I can, and I already have," Alexander replied mildly. "Item two: All personal accounts, trust funds, and offshore holdings tied to the Sterling family name have been frozen under suspicion of international financial fraud. You are broke, Mrs. Sterling. You don't even own the Armani suit you are wearing."

Jessica began to sob hysterically, clutching Liam’s arm. "Liam! Do something! Speak to them!"

"Shut up!" Liam screamed at Jessica, shoving her away in a sudden burst of panicked rage. "This is your fault! You and my mother forced me to sign those papers! You seduced me!"

"Oh, look at that," Cassian laughed, a sound cold enough to freeze boiling water. "The snake eats its own tail. How poetic."

Alexander walked over to Liam, leaning down until his shadow completely engulfed the trembling man.

"You thought you were discarding a penniless girl, Liam," Alexander whispered. "In reality, you just signed the execution order for your entire family bloodline's standing in the civilized world. You will not get a cent. You will not get a job. Every door in every city across the globe will be slammed in your face. If anyone so much as gives you a glass of water, I will ruin them too."

"What about my son?" Liam sobbed, tears and snot dripping down his face. "He's a Sterling!"

"He is a Valerius," Alexander corrected him coldly. "And he will never know your name."

Alexander turned on his heel and walked toward the exit, Cassian following close behind.

"Ten minutes, Sterlings," Cassian called back over his shoulder. "Tick-tock."
