Chapter 3 - Unearthing the Secrets

By midnight, the Ashford mansion was secured by private security officers hired by my firm, while Garrick and Miriam were held at the central police precinct for processing.
Sienna sat in the back of my SUV, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket, sipping warm tea from a thermos Dr. Chen had provided. Her hand was safely rested in a reinforced fiberglass cast, her pale face illuminated by the passing streetlights as we drove toward my private estate in the hills.
She hadn't spoken more than ten words since we left the house.
"Sienna," I said gently, keeping my eyes on the road while resting my hand on her knee. "You're safe now. He will never touch you again."
A soft sob escaped her lips. The tears she had held back for months finally broke free, streaming down her face as her shoulders shook uncontrollably.
"I... I was so scared, Mom," she whispered, her voice fragile and broken. "He told me... he said if I ever told you, he'd ruin Uncle Arthur's company. He said his family owned the judges in this state."
"His family owns nothing that my firm cannot dismantle," I told her, my voice brimming with quiet, absolute resolve. "He lied to you to keep you small. But you were never small, Sienna. You were just isolated."
When we arrived at my home, my security detail held open the gates. Inside, the warm, golden lights of the house shone brightly.
Arthur was waiting in the study, flanked by two senior partner attorneys from my former law firm—Victoria Vance, my sister-in-law, and Marcus Vance, my nephew and top criminal defense strategist.
"Sienna, sweetie," Arthur said warmly, coming over to embrace her gently, careful of her arm. "You're home."
"Thank you, Uncle Arthur," she murmured.
We settled into the library. Marcus laid out several digital tablets on the large oak table.
"Aunt Evelyn, the evidence Sienna sent to your cloud server is damning," Marcus said, scrolling through audio spectrums and transcriptions. "We have twenty-four distinct audio recordings detailing Garrick's physical threats, coercion, and Miriam's verbal abuse. Additionally, Dr. Chen's full radiological scan showed three older, improperly healed fractures in her ribs."
Sienna looked down at her hands, her face flushed with shame. "He... he dragged me down the stairs two months ago because I didn't finish the quarterly catering budget on time. Miriam told the doctor at the private clinic that I fell off a stepladder."
"Which private clinic?" I asked instantly, my prosecutor instincts flaring.
"St. Jude’s Private Medical in North Bay," Sienna whispered. "Dr. Bradley handled it. He's a close friend of Garrick's father."
Marcus made a sharp note on his pad. "Falsifying medical records to cover up a felony crime. That makes Dr. Bradley an accessory after the fact. I’ll have a subpoena served on that clinic by 8:00 AM tomorrow."
"What about their bail hearing?" I turned to Marcus.
"Garrick’s high-priced defense team is requesting an emergency bail hearing at 9:00 AM in District Court," Marcus warned. "They’re arguing that Garrick is a respected business figure with deep community ties and no prior criminal record."

I stood up, resting my palms on the desk.
"Then we make sure the judge sees the full, unedited reality of who Garrick Ashford really is before he even sets foot in that courtroom."
