Chapter 6 - The Dark Truth Revealed

The night air was freezing as Damien walked through the underground parking garage of his private estate. He was alone. His bodyguards had deserted him hours ago after their paychecks bounced.
He reached his armored SUV, his hand trembling as he unlocked the driver's side door.
"Looking for this?"
Damien spun around. Standing near the concrete pillar was a man wearing a dark trench coat—Julian Vance. In his hand, Julian held the master keys to the Moretti private security vault.
"Julian," Damien rasped, his voice desperate. "Where is she? Where is Clara? I need to see her!"
"Ms. Vance is currently at home feeding her three healthy children," Julian replied smoothly, placing the keys into his pocket. "A home you no longer own, by the way. The deed was transferred to the Vance Trust an hour ago."
"She can't do this!" Damien roared, taking a step forward, his fists balled. "I am the father of those babies!"
"Are you?" Julian asked, his expression unreadable. "Because according to the medical logs from the night of their birth, when the surgeon asked you to sign the authorization for the life-saving plasma transfusion for Baby Samuel, you threw the clipboards on the floor and said, 'Do whatever, I have a meeting.'"
Damien stopped dead in his tracks. A terrible, crushing weight settled onto his chest. "I... I was angry. I was overwhelmed—"
"You were selfish," Julian corrected him coldly. "You believed you were a king who could treat human beings like disposable chess pieces. You thought Clara was just a quiet, obedient society girl who would endure your neglect, your infidelity, and your arrogance forever."
Julian took a step closer, looking Damien dead in the eye.
"Do you know why her grandfather built that trust, Damien? Because he spent ten minutes in a room with you five years ago and saw exactly what you were. A hollow man who mistakes cruelty for strength. He knew the day would come when you would abandon her. He simply made sure that when you did, it would cost you everything you ever cared about."
Damien sank against the side of his SUV, his knees weak, his breath coming in ragged, painful gasps. The truth hit him like a physical blow—he hadn't been tricked by a rival mafia boss. He had been ruined by his own utter lack of humanity.
"Tell her..." Damien choked out, tears of shame finally burning his eyes. "Tell her I'll give up the empire. I'll give up the money. Just... let me see my babies. Let me ask her for forgiveness."

Julian looked at him with an icy pity.
"Forgiveness, Mr. Moretti, is for people who make mistakes. You made a choice. Live with it."
