Chapter 7 - The Trial & Underworld War

Two weeks later, the municipal courthouse was surrounded by hundreds of reporters, armored police vehicles, and news helicopters hovering overhead.

Inside Courtroom 4B, the atmosphere was suffocating.

Damien sat at the defense table, wearing a simple gray suit provided by a public defender. His empire was completely gone. His assets were seized, his syndicate dismantled or absorbed by the legitimate Vance Security Infrastructure, and his former allies were either in federal custody or hiding from prosecution.

Across the room sat Clara Vance.

She looked radiant. Clothed in a navy suit, her hair styled elegantly, she sat beside her legal team, surrounded by the quiet respect of every officer and official in the room.

The judge slammed his gavel down. "We are here to finalize the absolute custody termination and full name restoration for the minor infants Leo, Maya, and Samuel Vance."

Damien’s public defender stood up weakly. "Your Honor, my client requests supervised visitation rights. Despite his financial restructuring, he remains the biological father—"

"Your Honor," I stood up, my voice calm, resonance filling the courtroom. "May I present Exhibit F?"

The court clerk loaded a flash drive into the primary display monitor.

A video played. It was the security footage from the ICU hallway on the night my children were born.

The entire courtroom watched in stunned silence as Damien—dressed in his sharp black suit—stood calmly signing the divorce papers while the red emergency light flashed above my door. They heard his voice clearly recorded by the hallway microphones:

"I'm not her husband anymore. Legally, that changed two minutes ago. Update your records."

Gasps echoed through the gallery. Several jurors visibly recoiled in disgust.

Damien bowed his head, placing his face in his trembling hands, unable to look at the screen.

"My client," Julian Vance declared, standing beside me, "did not merely seek a legal separation. He committed active, malicious abandonment of a dying mother and three critically ill infants. He effectively relinquished all moral and legal claim to fatherhood the second he chose his corporate freedom over his children's survival."

The judge looked down at Damien with absolute disdain.

"The petition for total termination of paternal rights is granted," the judge declared, striking the gavel down with a sharp THWACK. "Damien Moretti will have no legal standing, no contact rights, and no access to the Vance children now or in the future. Furthermore, a permanent restraining order is issued."

As the courtroom erupted into noise, I turned and looked at Damien one last time. He looked up, his eyes bloodshot, desperate, begging for a single crumb of mercy.

I offered him none. I simply turned my back and walked out into the light.
