Chapter 8 - Rebuilding from the Ashes
Six months later, the legal storm finally passed. Andrew pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of wire fraud and conflict of interest to avoid a lengthy public trial. He was sentenced to four years at a low-security federal correctional facility and received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Navy. His name was erased from the rosters, his medals forfeited.
With the chapter officially closed, Olivia turned her energy toward healing and transformation. She didn't let the betrayal harden her heart permanently; instead, she used her experience to reshape the Langford Military Initiative.
She took over as the executive director of the foundation, implementing rigorous oversight and restructuring the grant programs. She focused entirely on grass-roots support for military families, providing housing, mental health counseling, and educational scholarships for children of fallen service members.
One afternoon, while reviewing a list of scholarship candidates and foundation personnel, a specific name caught her eye: Harris, Jackson.
It was the young guard from the Coronado gate. Olivia discovered that he had recently completed his enlistment contract and was attempting to enroll in a business program at San Diego State University but was struggling with tuition costs.
Olivia picked up her phone and called the foundation’s educational director.
"Mark? I’m looking at the application for Jackson Harris," Olivia said. "I want him approved for a full four-year Langford Leadership Scholarship. Cover everything—tuition, books, housing."

Olivia smiled softly, remembering the young man who had risked an officer's wrath to tell a wife the truth. "Let’s just say he demonstrated exceptional integrity under pressure. We need more people like him in the world."
