Chapter 17 - The Unbroken Sanctuary

By late autumn, the five-acre farmhouse in Franklin had transformed into a beacon of hope for the entire region.

The foundation had officially opened The Celeste Meadow Sanctuary—a state-of-the-art residential facility located on an adjacent ten-acre property, providing free housing, career training, and childcare for single mothers escaping domestic abuse and legal injustice.

On a crisp October afternoon, Rowan walked through the sanctuary grounds with Leo, Arthur, and Ethan—who were now energetic toddlers taking their first steady steps across the grass.

The triplets were laughing hysterically, chasing a friendly golden retriever named Barnaby through a bed of golden autumn leaves.

Megan walked over, carrying a wooden tray with hot cider and cinnamon pastries. She set the tray on a picnic table and wrapped her coat tighter around herself, watching her sons with glowing pride.

"Look at them, Rowan," Megan said softly, her heart overflowing. "They don't even know what fear feels like."

"And they never will," Rowan replied, pulling her close into his side, wrapping his coat around her back to share his warmth. "That was the promise I made to you the day we left the city."

"You kept every word, Rowan," she whispered, leaning up to kiss his lips warmly as the crisp autumn wind rustled the red oak leaves above them.
