Chapter 18 - Whispering Pines

As winter settled over the Tennessee hills, bringing a light, sparkling blanket of snow to the meadow, a new joy arrived at the Bellamy household.

It was Thanksgiving evening. The farmhouse was filled with warmth, the crackle of a roaring stone fireplace, and the delicious aromas of roasted turkey, sweet potatoes, and fresh apple pies.

Gathered around the long oak dining table were their closest friends and allies: Maya, Sheriff Miller, the sanctuary staff, and several young mothers who were celebrating their first peaceful holiday in years.

After dinner, as everyone gathered around the piano to sing soft Christmas carols, Rowan noticed Megan standing near the bay window, looking out at the snow-covered pasture under the moonlight.

He stepped behind her, resting his hands gently on her waist.

"Everything okay, sweetheart?" he asked in a low, affectionate whisper.

Megan smiled, taking his right hand and placing it gently against her lower abdomen.

Rowan froze. He felt the subtle warmth beneath her dress, and when he looked down into her eyes, he saw tears of pure, radiant happiness shimmering in the firelight.

"Is this...?" Rowan choked out, his heart hammering against his ribs.

"Number four," Megan whispered, a beautiful, breathless laugh escaping her lips. "A little girl, Rowan. The doctor confirmed it yesterday."

Rowan pulled her into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet as he buried his face in her hair, weeping soft tears of profound gratitude.

In the very place where their enemies had tried to bring death and destruction, new life was blooming.
