Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Breach

My heart stopped. "Our father? Why would federal marshals be looking for Dad?!"

"Because," Justin gasped, leaning against the doorframe for support, "Maya didn't just confess to the affair. When I confronted her in her room, she panicked. She told me that Dad was the one who authorized the Apex Horizon transfers three years ago!"

The room fell into a suffocating, terrifying silence.

I turned my head slowly to look at Kenneth on the hospital bed. His panicked expression had vanished, replaced by a dark, sinister grin that sent a wave of ice through my veins.

"You thought you were the smartest person in the room, didn't you, Sabrina?" Kenneth sneered through his pain, a bitter, bloody laugh escaping his lips. "You thought I was the mastermind. You thought I was the one stealing from Rollins Global."

I stepped up to his bed, my voice trembling with fury. "What did you do to my father, Kenneth?!"

"I didn't do anything to Richard Rollins," Kenneth chuckled darkly, clutching his bandaged torso. "Your father was losing millions in underground illegal sports betting in Las Vegas long before I met you. He was drowning in debt to a syndicate out of Chicago. He used me and Maya to drain the company’s capital reserves so the syndicate wouldn't break his legs!"

"Liar!" Justin roared, lunging across the hospital bed and grabbing Kenneth by his gown collar. "My father built this company from nothing! He would never put Rollins Global at risk!"

"Ask him yourself!" Kenneth wheezed, choking under Justin’s grip. "Why do you think he appointed Sabrina as CFO at twenty-eight?! Not because she was a genius! Because he knew she loved him too much to ever audit his private accounts!"

"Justin, let him go!" I commanded, grabbing my brother’s arm and pulling him off Kenneth.

Justin stumbled back, breathing heavily, his eyes red with unshed tears.

My mind raced through ten years of financial ledgers. All those late-night board meetings my father had called... all those off-the-books wire transfers he had asked me to authorize under the guise of "confidential land acquisitions in Latin America"... all those times he had patted my shoulder and said, "I trust you completely, Sabrina. Don't let the other board members pry into my private files."

I had protected him. I had shielded him. I had trusted my father implicitly, believing I was guarding his corporate legacy.

In reality, I had been his unwitting getaway driver.

"We have to get to Dad's estate," I told Justin, my voice cold and focused. "Before the marshals arrest him."

"Sabrina, if the FBI is involved—" Justin started.

"If the FBI arrests him at his house, the press will destroy Rollins Global before the stock market opens at eight o'clock," I barked, grabbing my folder from the bedside table. "We have two hours to secure the primary ledgers and find out how much of this company is still left standing."

I looked back at Kenneth, who was watching us with a satisfied, triumphant smirk.

"Enjoy the hospital, Kenneth," I said smoothly. "Because when I come back, you won't have a penny left to pay for your defense lawyer."

We ran out of the recovery wing, leaving the quiet hum of the hospital behind as we plunged into the dark, rain-soaked morning.
