Chapter 7 - The Reckoning of Kenneth Rollins

The District Court of Denver was packed to maximum capacity for the sentencing of Kenneth Rollins.
Kenneth sat at the defense table in a bright orange jumpsuit, his hands and feet chained together. His physical injuries from the surgical separation had healed, but heavy scars were visible along the side of his neck and jaw. He looked thin, broken, and utterly defeated.
His high-priced defense attorneys sat beside him, surrounded by thick stacks of legal motions that had all been systematically rejected by the federal judge over the last two months.
Sitting in the front row of the gallery was my brother Justin, my legal team, and me.
The Honorable Judge Evelyn Vance—the elder sister of Agent Vance—struck her gavel against the wooden bench.
BANG.
"We are here today for the final sentencing of Kenneth Rollins," Judge Vance announced, her sharp gray eyes looking down at the defense table. "Mr. Rollins has entered a guilty plea to two counts of federal wire fraud, one count of corporate embezzlement, and one count of felony aggravated medical battery and forgery."
Judge Vance looked over at me in the front row.
"Before I pronounce sentence," Judge Vance said gently, "the court will hear a victim impact statement from Mrs. Sabrina Rollins."
I stood up slowly.
I walked up to the wooden podium in the center of the courtroom, my steps steady, my head held high. I pulled no written notes from my pocket. I looked directly into Kenneth's eyes.
For the first time in five years, Kenneth looked down, unable to meet my gaze.
"Five years ago," I began, my voice clear and powerful, ringing off the mahogany walls of the courtroom, "I married a man I believed was my partner, my protector, and my best friend. I gave him my trust, my love, and access to my family's legacy."
I paused, letting the heavy silence settle over the room.
"Kenneth Rollins repaid that trust by stealing forty-seven million dollars from our company," I continued. "He betrayed my brother by entering into an illicit affair with his wife. But his greatest crime... his most unforgivable act... was taking away my bodily autonomy."
Several members of the jury panel gasped, looking at Kenneth with disgust.
"He forged my signature on a medical consent form," I said, my voice trembling slightly with suppressed emotion, but remaining strong. "He had me surgically sterilized without my knowledge or consent, because he viewed my body as an obstacle to his financial control. He wanted me broken. He wanted me desperate. He wanted me silent."
I leaned forward on the podium, my eyes burning into Kenneth's pale face.
"He failed," I declared boldly. "He didn't break me. He unlocked the woman I was always meant to be. I stand here today as the Chief Executive Officer of Rollins Global Enterprises. I have restored our company, I have protected my brother, and I have stripped Kenneth Rollins of every single thing he ever tried to steal from me."
I looked up at Judge Vance. "I ask this court to give him the maximum sentence allowed under the law."
The courtroom erupted into quiet murmurs of approval.
Judge Vance nodded slowly, her expression cold and unyielding as she looked down at Kenneth.
"Kenneth Rollins," Judge Vance declared, her voice booming through the room. "Your actions demonstrate a level of calculating, cruel narcissism that this court rarely witnesses. For the crimes of corporate fraud, embezzlement, and felony medical battery... I sentence you to thirty-five years in the Colorado Department of Corrections, without the possibility of parole for twenty-five years."
BANG.

The gavel fell.
Kenneth let out a choked, desperate shriek as two armed bailiffs grabbed him by his arms and dragged him away through the heavy steel side doors, his chains clanking loudly against the hardwood floor until the door clicked shut forever.
