Chapter 2 - Whispers in the Executive Suite

By 8:00 AM, the corporate office was buzzing. Word had leaked through the housekeeping department that the elusive billionaire Julian Vance had spent the night in a standard guest room while his luxury penthouse suite remained locked from the inside.
"There are rumors, Julian," warned Richard Vance, my uncle and chief operating officer, stepping into my corner office without knocking. "Corporate compliance is asking questions. Security reports show housekeeper Anna Silva logged into your suite keycard at midnight."
"Anna Silva was acting under my temporary dispensation," I replied, signing off on a acquisitions contract without looking up.
Richard frowned, his thin lips tightening into a line of suspicion. "A housekeeper? Julian, we are two weeks away from our public offering. The board is looking for any sign of erratic leadership. You cannot let sentimentality compromise security."

"Her eviction was arranged by the very real estate group we are attempting to acquire," I said coldly, looking him in the eye. "Apex Properties bought her complex and cleared out tenants without legal notice. That isn't just an eviction, Richard. That is a liability for our venture."
Richard’s gaze flickered with something unreadable before he smoothed his suit jacket. "Be careful, nephew. Digging into Apex might reveal things you aren't prepared to handle."
