Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The tranquility was short-lived. On Friday afternoon, an emergency board meeting was called. I walked into the mahogany-paneled room to find my uncle Richard standing at the head of the table alongside a team of corporate auditors.
"Julian," Richard announced, his voice carrying calculated authority. "An internal audit has flagged unauthorized allocation of corporate assets, specifically regarding property usage and legal fees spent defending low-income tenants affected by Apex Properties."
"I used my personal contingency fund for those legal injunctions," I stated firmly.
"That’s not what the records show," Richard countered, sliding a dossier across the table. "Funds were transferred directly from our primary acquisition reserves. Furthermore, security footage shows you frequenting the residence of an employee under investigation for corporate espionage."

A murmur ran through the board. My eyes narrowed as I scanned the forged financial documents in front of me. "Espionage? Anna Silva is a housekeeper."
"She was hired three months ago," Richard said coldly. "Directly after Apex Properties began negotiations with us. We have reason to believe she was planted to compromise your executive decisions."
