Chapter 9 - The Revelation That Shattered Their World

Jason’s face turned from pale to a ghostly, translucent white as a tall man in a dark federal suit walked through the swinging doors of the courtroom, carrying a sealed black briefcase with a gold federal seal.
Chelsea began to fidget in her chains, her confident smirk suddenly evaporating into a look of sheer, panicked confusion.
Special Agent David Vance took the stand, swore the oath, and opened his briefcase.
"Agent Vance," Arthur Pendelton said, walking toward him. "Please explain to the court why your division was monitoring the electronic communications of Clara Sullivan."
"Six months ago," Agent Vance testified, his voice clear and robotic in its precision, "Commissioner Gavin Potter approached our federal division with a private concern. He suspected that his son-in-law, Jason Sullivan, was using corporate logistics servers to engage in illegal offshore tracking and financial fraud. To prevent any conflict of interest or accusations of local police bias, the Commissioner requested a full, independent federal tap on his daughter's phone and home network to protect her from potential corporate espionage."
The courtroom was dead silent. You could hear a pin drop.
"Agent Vance," Arthur continued, leaning against the rail. "According to your absolute, unalterable federal logs, did Clara Sullivan ever send any anonymous texts to Chelsea Vance?"
"No," Agent Vance stated flatly, pulling up a verified federal document on the large monitors. "In fact, our logs show that Clara Sullivan had absolutely zero communication, interaction, or knowledge of Chelsea Vance’s personal phone number until the day of the attack in the parking garage. The text messages presented by the defense were created three days ago from a burner phone registered to Marcus Sterling’s law firm."
Gasps erupted across the courtroom. Judge Higgins’ face turned into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury. Marcus Sterling sank back into his chair, his eyes wide with horror as he realized his career was officially finished.
"Furthermore," Agent Vance continued, shifting to the next slide on the screen. "Our federal network tap captured a conversation between Jason Sullivan and Chelsea Vance recorded exactly one hour after the vandalism occurred. I would like to play that audio for the court."
The speaker system of the courtroom crackled to life. Jason’s voice filled the room, crystal clear, sounding incredibly arrogant and cold.
Jason: Did you finish it? Did you make sure she knows she’s nothing?
Chelsea: I smashed every window, baby. I tore that stupid baby seat to shreds. She cried like a little girl. She’s terrified. She won't dare contest the pre-nup now. Your company is safe.
Jason: Good. If she goes to the cops, I’ll just tell the board she’s crazy and jealous. Her dad won't risk his reputation defending an unstable woman. We win, Chelsea. The merger goes through next week.
The audio ended.

The silence that followed was suffocating.
Chelsea Vance let out a low, pathetic wail, slumping forward onto the defense table, her tears finally real—tears of absolute defeat. Jason sat perfectly still, his eyes locked onto the floor, his hands shaking so violently he could barely keep his seat. They had been completely, systematically exposed in front of the entire world. Their entire strategy of gaslighting, lies, and character assassination had collapsed into a pile of federal ash.
