Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The elevator doors opened directly into the executive boardroom. The room was expansive, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the Toronto skyline. Alistair Vance sat at the head of a massive mahogany table, surrounded by four other board members, their faces illuminated by the glow of a digital projection displaying the frozen assets in New York.
The entrance of Dominic and Megan was met with stunned silence. Vance’s hand moved toward the silent alarm beneath the table, but Dominic drew his silenced weapon with a speed that defied his size, leveling it directly at the CEO’s forehead.
"I wouldn't do that, Mr. Vance," Dominic said, his voice dropping the temperature in the room to absolute zero. "The security network downstairs is currently experiencing a catastrophic system failure. If you press that button, the only thing that happens is this room becomes a slaughterhouse."
Megan stepped forward, unpinning a small flash drive from her dress and tossing it onto the mahogany table. "That contains the complete, unredacted financial records of Vanguard Helix’s offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands, including the specific transactions that funded the assassination attempt on my family forty-eight hours ago."

Vance sneered, trying to maintain his composure. "You think you can intimidate us? You're a pair of ghosts from a dead syndicate. The Commission is gone. You have no leverage here."
"We don't need the Commission," Megan replied, her voice cold and lethal. "We have the media. That drive is already linked to an automated server. If I don't enter a dead-man's code every six hours, that data is automatically transmitted to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the IRS, and the Wall Street Journal. Your four billion dollars won't just stay frozen; you'll spend the rest of your lives in a federal penitentiary."
