Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Crown

As the sun began to set over the Atlantic Ocean, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of gold, rose, and violet, the guests gathered around the main pavilion for the birthday toast.

Arthur Vance stood at the head of the long table, raising his crystal glass high into the air.

"To Eleanor Vance, who taught her daughter to be wise," Arthur announced, his voice echoing warmly across the lawn. "To Aegis, built on truth. And to Alexander, Benjamin, and Christopher—the proud heirs to a true empire!"

"To the Vance boys!" the crowd cheered in unison, clinking their glasses together under the golden light of the evening sky.

Claire stepped forward to the front of the pavilion, holding little Alexander in her left arm while Benjamin stood beside her leg, holding her right hand. Marcus stood right behind her, holding Christopher, his strong, protective presence surrounding them all like an impenetrable wall.

Claire looked out over her guests, over the ocean, and down at the three little boys who had transformed her life.

She reached into her small velvet jewelry pouch inside her dress pocket. She pulled out her mother's diamond necklace—the necklace Vanessa had tried to claim at the Halston Hotel, the necklace Ethan had taken from her safe.

It glittered brilliantly in the warm rays of the setting sun, pure, flawless, and unbroken.

Claire didn't put it around her own neck. Instead, she placed it gently back into the velvet box, handing it to Arthur Vance.

"Keep this safe in the family vault, Arthur," Claire said, her voice clear, strong, and filled with unshakeable peace. "When my sons grow up and find women of true honor, grace, and courage to join this family, we will pass it forward."

She looked back at her sons, who were now laughing together as Marcus tickled their little toes.

The betrayal that was meant to destroy her had only revealed her true strength. The abandonment that was meant to leave her penniless had crowned her a titan. And the three unborn babies Ethan had tried to sign away had become the crowned princes of an empire built on truth, brilliance, and unyielding motherly love.

Claire smiled—a radiant, breathtaking, victorious smile.

Not a cruel smile.

Not a vengeful one.

A smile of absolute, everlasting triumph.

She had survived the storm, conquered the shadows, and brought her children home to a kingdom that was entirely, undeniably, and eternally theirs.
